We told you yesterday how many consoles were sold in Australia in 2009. Today we’ve got life-to-date figures for all six active console and handheld platforms. There is a list and everything!
Let’s get straight to the point.
To recap, here’s how the hardware performed in 2009:
DS – 760,000
Wii – 730,000
360 – 300,000*
PS3 – 272,000
PS2 – 120,000
PSP – 100,000
And here’s the total life-to-date sales figures:
DS – 2,500,000
PS2 – 2,500,000
Wii – 1,700,000
360 – 800,000*
PS3 – 646,000
PSP – 604,000
Looks like the DS is well on track to succeed the PS2 as the best-selling piece of games hardware in Australian history. Bravo!
*Microsoft did not reveal official GfK sales data. The Xbox 360 figures are an estimate based on an internal Microsoft figure of 850,000 consoles in Australian homes at the end of 2009, compared to around 500,000 at the end of 2008.
