Reggie: Don’t Count On Wii Successor Anytime Soon

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime shrugs off talk of a new version or successor to the company’s incredibly popular Wii, saying that the console still has a “very long life in front of it”.

According to a report from BusinessWeek, Fils-Aime implied that Nintendo was not planning on revising Wii hardware as analysts have speculated. Or at least that such an announcement would be made at the Game Developers Conference in March.

But BusinessWeek points out that Reggie wouldn’t issue the same swift denial of a Wii HD possibility at E3 2010. Nintendo will likely make a bigger deal about the upcoming Legend of Zelda game it has planned for the Wii and showcase wowing us with software for the Wii Vitality Sensor, announced at last year’s E3.

Nintendo, Micro$oft and Sony Don’t want to release new hardware yet because they’re all making too much money off the current generation.

And about time they realise this too – I dont want to buy new hardware, again. The PS3 is a great machine and quite frankly it doesnt have the excellent software library that the PS2 did in the same time frame, so until that library is up to scratch, I wouldnt dream of releasing another machine

As for another Wii – meh.. does anyone care anymore?

First of all, Wii Sports doesn’t even qualify to be a game. Second of all, New Super Mario Bros. was just a new skin for a game we all finished 10 years ago. Third of all, Galaxy 2 does count because it doesn’t exist. Fourth of all, the PS3 can play shooters, has hardware that can actually be considered current gen, and can play REAL (non gimmicky shit with the Wii prefix/suffix added on to certify it’s crap-ness)games, without dumbing them down so much that it looks like an 8-bit foray into 3D. ‘Nuff said, I think?

            Oh and one more thing.

That ‘Virtual Console’ shit is not Wii games, they are games from an older console that have been scraped from the pimply underbelly of nostalgia and taped onto the Wii to make it look like it has more content.
