THQ is rolling out the sequels in fiscal year 2012, with releases planned for Saint’s Row 3, a Darksiders sequel, and a follow-up to the Wii-exclusive hit de Blob.
During the THQ investor call today, CEO Brian Farrell continued listing off upcoming games after outing a new Red Faction title and Homefront for release during fiscal year 2011, with three more sequels planned for release during fiscal year 2012, which runs from April of 2011 to March of the following year.
A new Darksiders title is a no-brainer, consider the success the first has seen, especially during one of the busiest post-holiday seasons in recent memory. The Saint’s Row series of Grand Theft Auto-inspired games is also a big breadwinner for the company, so fans can expect to see Saint’s Row 3 as well.
The biggest surprise for me is a follow-up to de Blob, which remains one of my favourite titles on the Nintendo Wii even now, after a year and four months of new Wii titles have come and gone. I didn’t think the game had done well enough to warrant a sequel, but I am tremendously excited to learn otherwise.
Now I realise the Darksiders fans will be the most vocal in the comments section, but can I get a little de Blob love?

Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 10:59 AMI think you have to give THQ credit. When ever you play one of the games they publish, you can kind of tell that they don’t have as much money to spend on the project as EA or Activision. Yet they have put out, in my mind, some of the most enjoyable and unique games in the last few years. Saints Row 2, Red Faction Guerilla, Darksiders, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are all great games to play and I often find these imperfect gems far more memorable than anything put out by their big competition. Here’s hoping they continue their form.

Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 11:37 AMI think its that lower budget that allows them to make better games. They can afford to take a punt every now and then and give full creative control to the developer with a good idea.

Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 1:52 PMWhile i loved de blob, I just wonder what more they can do with it.
If they just make new levels and a few new bad guys i don’t think i’d bother.
Of Course they could take it in a whole new direction and that would be great.

Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 5:57 PMI read an article earlier today on Kotaku about Darksiders sales being below expectations, and now they’ve announced a sequel…hmmm strange. But as Mike says, de Blob did pretty poorly in the sales stakes too.
Anyway, I’m overjoyed to here there’s gonna be a new Darksiders game. Everyone’s made comment about it ripping off other succesful games, but damned if I didn’t enjoy it more than many of those said games. Can’t wait to sse what Vigil does with a sequel.
