PS3s Suffering From Global Network Lockdown

All around the world, PlayStation 3 consoles simply aren’t working like they’re supposed to, with a PlayStation Network error preventing people from not just going online, but from playing some PS3 games offline as well.

From Europe to the Americas to, well, my house in Australia, users are complaining that upon booting their consoles up, they’re unable to sign into their accounts, check their trophies or access the PlayStation Network. That’s fine, Sony say there are PSN connection problems, and that they are “looking into it”.

Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. The screen above is what I was greeted with when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It’s the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support.

Sony say “stay tuned” for updates on the problem. In turn, we’ll update if we hear anything more.

I’ve got this problem. It’s like the Sony Millenium Bug. My “Fat” PS3 has it’s date set back to 2000 and I can’t do anything.

I got the same Heavy Rain problem. I haven’t been able to play it since I woke up today.

I even tried playing BioShock 1 and everytime I try and hack something or take a picture, the screen freezes, glitches and then I have to restart.

What the hell is going on?

Yeah, so hopped on my PS3 after work for a bit of online MW2… Nope. Above stated problem occurs.

Fine, I says to myself. How about finishing off that second playthough of Mass Effect 2 on X360? Sounds like a plan…

…Nope. RRoD – For the SECOND damn time!

    Frustration has a new definition…

Yeah, I can’t play any disc games, or even games on the hard drive. My date keeps reverting to 1/1/2000 no matter how many times I change it. Interestingly, the US users are reporting the date to be reverting to 12/31/1999.
Also my Demon’s Souls trophies are all gone. Nooooo!

    -Demon’s Souls – fail
    -Overlord 2 – fail

    oh man….

I was having problems yesterday, with signing in to PSN taking ages and actually timing out half the time. Today it seems to fail almost instantly.

I’m using a 40GB model, and noticed that the date had reset to 1/1/2000 today. Trying to reset the time via the internet failed, so I guess Sony’s time servers are also down.

Had a hard day today, tried to play some MW2 online and then when that didn’t work, offline. Instead of relaxing, im greeted by this bug. I can understand the online thing but come on, offline problems as well, Sony sucks.

My Amplified dynamic theme has carked it. Took a few goes to even get a picture on the tv until it started going through the “A HDMI cable has been detected” setup. Got into the menu, and tried to reset the theme but where amplified was it now only says corrupted data. And the date is reset.

I’ve had my PS3 unplugged since yesterday afternoon due to a thunderstorm (better safe than sorry, right?) so it’s had no access to the internet.

Now, the question is, to turn it on or not to turn it on?

Lets hope there’s a fix by the release of FF13. D:

My old playstation (Phat) is having some problems since this morning. After not being able to sign in, some corrupt data appeared under the games section. After that, Yellow Light of Death. I know why I can’t sign in, but could these other problems be related? I only just fixed it the other day, and I did a pretty good job. So it could either be a different hardware problem other than the motherboard or due to the PSN problem perhaps? Does anyone know of anyone else getting YLOD because of the PSN meltdown?

yea ive got yellow light of death from it im going to call up sony tomorrow and ask if they will fix it or give me a new ps3 free of charge because of it i have a 60gb phat ps3 glad to know im not alone with this i think anyone who has this problem should complain to sony aswell

So I gave sony a call and they give me the same ol’ “its a hardware issue, pay us $250 or else!”

I’ve almost given up hope, im gonna scour forums for more people with the same problem.

I’ve had YLOD but i get the feeling this is different. Most of the time I can actually get into the menu instead of instant death, its around about the time that the playstation auto signs into my user that it dies.

        Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10:43 AM

dang i feel for youse guys who got the YLOD because of this hubbub cause i got the YLOD a month or so ago and had to wait for my crappy warranty services to be approved (to be fair Harvey Norman’s has a crappy warranty service not Sony)…and on top of that i had to wait 5 weeks or so for it to be fixed/returned, just got my old PS3 back a couple of days ago…

good thing i havent turned it on yet since sunday, im really trying so hard not to turn it on and get my Heavy Rain fix..

but yeah to those who got YLOD, and the PS3 doesnt turn on, expect if you use your warranty other than through Sony, it would take long and thats besides the waiting for the actual repairing of the console..and oh yeah expect for everything in your hardrive to be COMPLETELY REMOVED, WIPED CLEAN OFF!!..dont worry about trophies/levels theyre still gonna be there

when it was being repaired i kinda secretly wished they would exchange it for a slim hehe..but i love my 60GB non the less
