Despite long ties to the PlayStation brand, Sony doesn’t own the studio, so if the team decided to go and make games for the Xbox 360 (or the PC or Wii), there’d be nothing stopping them.
With both the developer’s flagship properties, Resistance and Ratchet & Clank being Sony-published titles, don’t expect to see them appear on a different system. But Insomniac’s next project? If this turns out to be true, it could be developed for as many platforms as the studio’s heart desires.

I don’t see why we have brand exclusivity at all, if a development studio is legally capable of being multi-platform then they should.

yeah it wouldve worked great if the 360 hadnt paid blood money for so many things (Ie there wouldnt have been 50 3rd Rate RPG’s pumped out in the first yr and a half)
i say fair enough if sonys publishing it but paying a company off is just lame

Wait… you think Microsoft is the only company who pays for exclusives? Oh dear. I bet you’re one of those people who think that Final Fantasy belongs exclusively on its ‘home’ the playstation, too…

All open studios should be as multi-platform as they can (without ruining quality obviously)… If a publisher wants to pay them for developing exclusive content, then thats an entirely different story.

I’ve been a fan on Insomniac since the original Spyro series on PS1, which still rates as one of the the best series of games I’ve played (up until 3, where after Insomniac no longer developed the series).
I’ve followed the Ratchet and Clank series from its debut on the PS2 through to the latest incarnation on the PS3, this series is the perfect blend of humour/platformer/shooter.
While I understand Insomniacs financial reasons for going multi-platform, as there is much money to be made. It would be a sad day for any SONY fan as Ratchet and Clank have been unoffical mascots for many years now.
Hopefully these rumours turn out to be nothing more than that, rumours.

I think that’s a little immature, regardless of the platform it doesn’t diminish their games and the effect it has on the brand.
I ask what does it do for PS3 owners if Insomniac go multi-plat? Absolutely nothing, other then hurt a few egos.

I hear what your saying. As a sony fan if Insomniac games gose multiplatform and their flag ship titles go multiplatform it will me very sad news for me, very depressing.
However times are tough and it is becoming increasingly difficult to survive in the market place, especially under the current global economic conditions. If this is what Insomniac feels they need to do then i gusse they have to do it. At least we’ll still be getting games from the studio.

Exactly why people shouldn’t be a fan of a platform.
Report PermalinkEither 360/Wii/PS3 or PC/Mac the platform should be invisible and you should be a fan of the software.

Im a fan of games and developers, not producers… who cares were the game plays, as long as its good and as long as its accessible by as many people as possible. I can see why Sony would find it sad, but utterly confused why anyone else would.

I think they they wouldn’t. From what I know they are really thankful and faithful to the PlayStation brand and they are on their blog pretty fast to say that they are exclusive. It would mean that Play station would be less cooperative and would potentially lower their standing. Also, I believe in Exclusives. It allows devs to build for the hardware. look at Uncharted 2, GodOW3,R&C: Future, Heavy Rain as well as ME2, GearsOW1+2, Fable 2 and so on and so forth. they define the console they are on. They are built for the console. I think that exclusives define the console they are on. Wii games, 360 games and PS3 games (to a lesser extent) are built for the specific console and the audience that owns the console.

It’s crazy for a company that isn’t owned by Sony to not try and get their game out onto as many platforms as possible. And it’s equally as crazy for Sony to not already own Insomniac, unless they offered and they declined?

Ted Price stated in an interview a while ago that Sony had offered to buy them out but they declined on the basis that while they were loyal to Sony, they were keen to maintain their own identity.

hahaha, “consumer loyalty”. You realise “loyalty” is the machine these companies use to print money with, right? They don’t care about you, they care about your wallet.

i personally think they should just stick with sony, as already seen with all exclusives, devs can put alot out on the one console rather than multiplatform it. understandable if its for financial difficulties, but hopefully it isnt for more dough

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this rumor. Insomniac is one the major reasons why I support the PS3 because on the whole they’re an awesome company. If they were to go multi-platform the almost dead fanboy in me would scream NNNNOOOOO!!!
But the more logical part of me would sadly remark that if you love something, you have to set it free. Insomniac deserve the best. They deserve to be appreciated by more people. They also deserve to flourish creatively and financially. These are hard times and if they have to work with other systems in addition to Sony in order to be another studio on the death list, then so be it.

insomniac being multi?.. isnt bad but will it have to make quality a little worse than it could be? maybe.
However it is good for their company and spreading the games market to a larger audience and hence more moolah for them.
Though, I hope they stay, as i always laugh at fanboys fighting it out on forums.

I think ps3 fanboys r bein a bit selfish here, i played spyro and ratchet and clank when i was younger and I loved them, and i think it wood be even better if they brought ratchet and clank to xbox and maybe even reboot the spyro series and make it multi platform, and i’m almost positevly sure that there is atleast 1 xbox exclusive that u ps3 fanboys wish u had

Sweet, while I own both a ps3 and a 360 this is good news for my friends who haven’t got ps3s yet. I wonder if they’d port the RnC games, probably wouldn’t work if they were built specifically to run on ps3 like U2 and mgs4 etc.

Man I’m rather tierd of games only on one system, I don’t have enough money to buy both if not all three system. God damn I want to play God of War 3 and the Ratchet and Clank games but alas I have thrown my lot in with the xbox 360 though still very happy with my choice.
