First Look At Gears Of War & Painkiller Creators’ Brutal Bulletstorm

What do you get when you combine the shoot ‘em up talents of Gears of War maker Epic Games and Painkiller creators People Can Fly? You get Bulletstorm, a futuristic first-person shooter that lets you play as a drunken pirate.

Bulletstorm is that not-so-mysterious game from EA, Epic and People Can Fly, an all-new effort that’s coming to the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in 2011. The new issue of Game Informer magazine spills all the gory details on the new shooter, an issue that has started to show up in subscribers’ mailboxes.

According to early details from the magazine, Bulletstorm will put players in the shoes of Grayson Hunt, formerly the leader of a black ops team named Dead Echo, now somewhat more pathetic as a drunken space pirate. One crash landing and run in with an old enemy later, Hunt will be shooting, kicking, sliding and wielding a fancy energy leash in first person action.

Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski is set to make an announcement about Gears of War 3 on Monday – an announcement that was slightly spoiled by someone at Xbox HQ – and apparently reveal a second game at the same time. That’s likely Bulletstorm.

So, if you want details before Cliff is allowed to give them, read the new Game Informer.

Would have been better if they held off Gears 3 for future consoles. Suppose they wanted to get it out of the way.

Hold off the release till the next console. No way. How would that be better? Guess you like waiting for games instead of playing them.

Indeed. I wouldn’t expect the next generation to begin until 2014 at the earliest. The ps3 and Xbox 360 have more than enough time to flex. Besides which, EA have committed to Mass Effect 3, and I wouldn’t expect that until at least 2012. And that’s definitely coming to Xbox 360 (and PC).

Mass Effect 3 is Xmas 2011 at the latest.

Now that EA know that improving upon the game can do wonders for critical reception, gamers appreciation and sales – they could safely release it in the holiday season.

But yeah – Mass Effect 3 has already begun in development and could even be released in 2011 at the same time it was for ME2. No way 2012.

I think they want GOW out of the way so on the next console there’ll be potential for a new trilogy. Or a re-release. Probably both.

I hope Australian Game Informer gets a cover like that for next issue. All the past ones have been really bland compared to Hyper and all the official mags. I will be expecting my LE cover aswell since I got a subscription :)
