Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it’s an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
Sounds slightly stupid, but then, it doesn’t just give you a portable PS3, it gives you a portable Blu-Ray player as well (and, for Japanese, it’s even compatible with the torne digital TV peripheral). One that can display stuff in HD, for those times you’re stuck at Gran’s house on her old 28″ SDTV.
It’ll go on sale May 27 in Japan, for USD$275.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2:40 PMIt doesn’t mention battery life; I’m assuming you’d have to use a car adapter/invertor if taking it as a passenger.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 4:32 PMQuite true: how long can a PS3 and an HD screen last without being plugged in?
Although, I would assume they also sell exorbitantly priced batteries.
As for heating… I guess you’d need one of those laptop lap plate… things. But, yes, it’s probably prone to overheating.
This is, of course, conjecture on my part. It could be constructed from heating resistant adamantium. I guess we’ll know soon enough…

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 5:20 PMso lap plate, ps3 and screen- thats got to be over 2kg at least. Thats gonna get pretty uncomfortable after a few hours. plus if you are in a car, the ps3 will be on your lap, so where do you hold the controller? if you hold it naturlly, you won’t be able to see the screen.
I admire the idea, but thinking practicly the market for this product is very small. most people would be content to stick to their home tv. 300 dollars could buy you a psp plus a sack of games. or two ds lites
