LunchTimeWaster: Parallel Platforming

2D platformers are often hard enough even when you know what you’re doing. But what about when the level is split between two perspectives, each only showing half the layout of platforms? Let me explain.

Hello Worlds is a 2D platformer. Each level is a single screen where you have to make it to the exit, collecting coins along the way. But it’s not quite that simple.

In this early level on the left, you can see the two perspectives displayed in the top and bottom panels. Each panel only shows some of the platforms: you have to combine the two views to realise the full design. And it will surprise you just how tricky it can be to think in two places at once.
