Back in September, porn behemoth Vivid Entertainment approached Sony about streaming its porn all over the PS3 (snicker). Vivid’s boss says that thrust (haha) is over, and they’re now fantasising about Microsoft.
Speaking to CVG, Steve Hirsch, Vivid’s founder, said conversations with Sony “didn’t lead anywhere”. However, “If we could get further than we did with Sony [on Xbox 360] , we’d be very interested,” he added.
My, what a big if you have, Steven. Why don’t you come inside for a drink of water …
Vivid went to Sony late last summer after the console maker started allowing a Japanese porn channel to distribute Blu-Ray movies to Japanese subscribers. Vivid wanted Sony to set up an adults-only channel on the PlayStation Network, through which it would sell and distribute to you its warm, porny goodness.
So this likely collapsed as much for content as for the fact Sony would have to build infrastructure to accommodate it, even though everyone knows making and selling porn is a licence to print money.

Microsoft should make a deal with Vivid a customer is a customer, I see no problem there measures to stop children from playing age inapropriate games and videos right now.

Microsoft will never allow porn on the XBox though. They wouldn’t even allow that game called Privates, so there’s no way they’ll allow a hardcore porn service.

Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 3:57 AMThe whole “porn won the format war” thing is ridiculous. BluRay beat HD-DVD because it had much greater studio support (the balance finally tipped when Warner Bros went BluRay exclusive).
It may have been a factor in VHS v Betamax, but in those days people didn’t have the internet so they couldn’t just download their porn in the privacy of their own home. Seriously, even if somebody wanted to actually pay for porn, why would they go to the embarrassment of actually buying it on a disc when they can get it anonymously from home?
