Sega Genesis Classics Now Available On Steam

The first batch of downloadable Sega Genesis games for the PC has hit Steam, giving gamers a new way to spend $US2.99 apiece on games like Ecco the Dolphin, Vectorman and Sonic 3D Blast.

Why worry about the ambiguous moral and legal issues surrounding emulation when you can just buy Sega Genesis titles for your PC? The first batch of Sega Genesis Classics is now available on Steam, with $US2.99 scoring players legitimate copies of a number of games previously available only through the dozens of game compilations Sega has released over the past decade.

For those who prefer those compilations, Steam is also offering up the Sega Classics pack, featuring Comix Zone, Crack Down, Ecco the Dolphin, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, Sonic 3D Blast, Space Harrier II, Vectorman, Altered Beast and Shadow Dancer, all for $US34.99.

I’m very interested to see how these things sell. Can Sega get players to pay for these? Will you pay for these?

Thanks to Jim for reminding us these were coming.

I picked these up on the cheap for the PSP and PS3 not to mention the sonic collections I got for the PS2 and Gamecube…. I think I’m good for the time being. How about a new sonic game that doesn’t suck Sega? Also HD Comix Zone!

I grabbed Golden Axe, spent hard earned pocket money in my youth on that arcade machine, in a dingy smoke filled pinny parlour. (You could smoke inside back then.)

Price for the pack in Australia is showing as $42USD. Seriously WTF Sega, a 20% hike because we happen to live here.

The important question is: Do they provide Sonic 3 & Knuckles?
Much loved by me and missing from the “Ultimate” Collection.

    It’s called the exchange rate.
    USD$35 = AUD$42 exactly atm.

As in the OP it is USD$41.89 not AU$41.89 on AU steam vs USD$34.89 on US steam so thats an arbitrary 20% price hike because Australia game prices a ‘just higher’.

Actually, no Frank. Exchange rate has nothing to do with it. It’s $US42 not $AUD42.

Australia is being screwed once again.

I thought about this ages ago, how great it would be if steam released old games like these.
but honestly, at this price, and the fact that there have been free roms on the net for these games since i was 6 years old, i cant see the value in this.

Could someone confirm if this works with the wired 360 controller in windows? The sonic mega collection plus that I got from big W does not.
