Batman: Arkham Asylum Sequel Coming Fall 2011

Batman: Arkham City, follow-up to the bone-crushing, dark Batman: Arkham Asylum, is in development for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 for a Fall 2011 release, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said this morning.

The sequel, in development by Rocksteady Studios, has players taking Batman into Arkham City, the new maximum security home for all of Gotham City’s criminals. This new prison is described as a heavily fortified walled-prison in the heart of Gotham City.

The game will include story that “draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight,” according to the press release.

Check out the first teaser trailer here.

UPDATE: Whoops, never mind, that trailer was the one they premiered at the VGAs. Sorry about that.

UPDATE #2: As commenters have pointed out, the new Game Informer indicates Catwoman will be playing a part in the game and is that Two Face in the background too?

I like the name of it ‘Arkham City’ sounds way better than ‘Arkham Asylum 2′ or something like that.

No doubt this game will be a must have in 2011.

So, another Batman prison game? Umm, yah. I’ll have to wait to see how it turns out, but not feeling enthused about the same premise being used again.

I like the name of this new facility – reminds me of Emerald City in the prison show, ‘Oz’.

Judging from the trailer that’s been out for some time, the ‘walled-prison in the heart of Gotham City’, may actually be blocks of cordoned off Gotham City spilling over with crazed Arkham inmates?

Either way, any more time as the caped crusader is good time.

LOVED the first one, this is definitely going to be at the top of the must-have list for next year. Now waiting for awesome Collectors version too, hopefully better than just the Batarang in the original…

YES! That was the only problem I had with the first one, the collector’s edition. But I pretty much forgot about it once I started playing. 2011 is looking to be awesome. Gears 3, Portal 2, inFamous 2 and Arkham City. Hopefully the Last Guardian, MGS Rising and Uncharted 3 come out as well. I’d be broke, but I’d be happy =]

I’d settle for the same collectors edition… but with a less crappy batarang.

I’m sad. I thought it was going to be Ashes of Arkham. What a name.

Ah well, the game MIGHT still be worth getting :P

Terrible name, I’m sorry. Out of those domain names, there were so many better ones. And a year away? I wish they hadn’t teased it to us so early on.

That said, Holy. Crap. I can’t wait; first one is one of my favourite video games of all time, probably my second favourite on the PS3 next to Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time.

WOW! That game informer cover looks sick! If that cover is anything to go by, I think Arkham City will be even darker than Arkham Asylum which is ,in my opinion, one of the darkest games I have ever seen, that isn’t a survival horror game.
