Kotaku Matchmaker: Team Fortress 2

Kotaku AU

Aussie online gamers know that any online game is best enjoyed with, well… other Aussies. To ensure your weekend online gaming is as lag-free as possible, every Friday we’ll be hosting the Kotaku Matchmaker, where you can meet new friends online!

We’ll be theming each Matchmaker around a specific game, but you can check back in the archive of older titles below. And feel free to suggest a totally different game in the comments, if that’s what you’re planning to play this weekend.

This week it’s time for an oldie but a goodie, the timeless Team Fortress 2.

All you need to do is leave your Steam ID (or, ahem, Xbox Live gamertag) in the comments below. Mention a bit about yourself, too, anything that’ll help other players decide if you’re really a good match.

Sadly – yes :(. I tried REALLY HARD to like that game (I loved AvP and AvP 2 to death) but it was just so… bland.

May actually get the time to fire it up this weekend, if I’m not mucking around in SPvTW. Most likely won’t be for long though – my iMac brainfarts. :D

Hey Dave, for big PC games like this (especially valve games) that already have a huge community, It’d probably be better to post server IP’s instead of individual steamID’s.

I play A LOT of TF2, i’ve been playing from beta and I’m in an ozfort clan and most of my playtime is scrimming, but I’ve learned some of the best pub servers in my lengthy TF2 career. Here are some of my favourites:

    REDDIT Au: 118.127.6.180:27015
Reddit is probably my favourite server. It the full suite of sourceOP mod tools, including stat tracking, RTV, nominate, votekick, and my personal favourite, votescramble! They also have a very expansive map rotation of not only official maps, but some of the best custom maps

    3FL Prophunt: 202.72.191.139:27018
Probably the best prophunt server I’ve come accross. For those of you unsure of what prophunt is, it’s basically ‘hide and seek’ in TF2. One team spawns as pyros, and the other team spawns as ‘props’ (IE, buckets, bales of hay, wooden cows) and must hide in the map while the pyro’s seek them out. To prevent simply spamming every object, the pyros loose a little bit of HP every time they fire. It’s a great little game to play when vanilla TF2 becomes tiring!

    Internode Servers: 59.167.241.41:27015
Of all the standard ISP servers, i’ve found the Internode ones to be the best – they often have admins in them to make sure people stay clean. The IP i’ve given is of my favourite one, the full rotation server, but most of the others are still great!

    Nocrit Servers: 3FL: 202.72.191.139:27019 Internode: 150.101.172.67:27015
Lastly, these two servers are for all you it, shit and a bit TF2 players that think you can tussle against the best. They turn off both random crits and damage spread (damage spread works kind of like ANTI-crits, IE, your shots have a chance to do less than average damage) making the playing field a bit more even, and a bit closer to real competitive play!

My steamID is thetacoman and you’ll probably find me on one of these servers, if I’m not in a scrim!

    BAM steam://friends/add/76561197966469604

If that didn’t work, my steam name is either f4cti0n or stevekt, I don’t know the inner workings of Steam. I haven’t played TF2 for a week or so now, but I’m likely going to play the hell out of it tonight.

Although I’ve lost my voice :\

Garos55 (I made it in year seven or something, so ignore the name) and I play under Cotton.
I’d also like to say that if SuperCONROYfilterMan is reading, that’s the best goddamn name I’ve ever heard. It pops into my head and makes me laugh occaisionally.
Some crazy names out there in the world of TF2.

    RedIon1992 on both systems.

Usually found on the Halolz server, or the local ones.

That is, when I do get time to play.
