Splinter Cell’s Strange Baby Seal Saving Mission Exposed?

So did you hear the one about Splinter Cell secret agent Sam Fisher saving a bunch of space-dwelling baby seals and their princess? Yeah, we hadn’t heard about this Splinter Cell: Double Agent easter egg either. No one has.

So claims the hidden mission’s creator, Ubisoft Montreal level designer Simon Lasalle, via his co-op multiplayer partner Julien, the duo responsible for this video. To hear Julien tell it, Simon was a little disappointed that the well-hidden secret mission was never found by players. We can’t find mention of it online, but I also don’t have a copy of Double Agent to verify it for myself.

According to Julien, this hidden mission, in which our “Splinter Seals” must rescue baby seals Cookie, Buddy, Pepperoni, Vanilla and Muffin, is available on the Xbox version of the game. (They played it on an Xbox 360, however, as the game is backwards compatible.) It is, without a doubt, the oddest Splinter Cell mission I’ve ever seen.

Have you seen it? If you’d like to try out some stealthy seal saving for yourself, Julien and Simon’s walkthrough is more than thorough.

Nobody thought that all the random items scattered around might be used for something?

They’re probably scripted to not show up until the first parts of the mission are done.

I’m pretty sure they only appear once you find the seal that the item’s needed for.

I believe some one did in fact uncover this. I remember a post on Ubisoft’s SC Legacy forums about this some time ago, but I don’t think it got many replies. I wasn’t able to check it out myself and I imagine that the game’s limited sales meant that few were able to either.
