del Toro tells MTV Multiplayer that, yes, he is working with the publisher of Red Faction and Saint’s Row on games that could start appearing as soon as 2013. The Mexican filmmaker says he’s attached to some “big games” that are due to be announced soon, including one horror game, which he vaguely describes.
“It’s horror… but it’s a very different type of horror game,” the director says. “It’s not survival horror. It’s truly a strange, geeky mix. It’s a Lovecraftian thing. Let’s leave it at that.”
THQ has been making significant moves in drawing big name creators this year. It has announced a deal to publish games from Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki and Brutal Legend creator Tim Schafer. It also has deals with the SyFy network for ongoing Red Faction based projects and recently poached Assassin’s Creed creative director Patrice Desilets.
