Nintendo’s Next Console Will Leave You With Your Mouth Open

Is your mouth open? If it’s closed, watch out, because Nintendo’s next console will make you all slack jawed. But relax, we’re a few years off. Go ahead, shut your yapper.

Whether it’s been portables, controllers or even 3D, Nintendo has been a trailblazer. And according to Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto, that doesn’t look like it will stop any time soon.

“At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console,” Sakamoto told website 3D Juegos in a recent interview. “We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open.”

Last year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stressed the importance of surprising people with the new Nintendo console – more importantly, Iwata mentioned how it was important for Nintendo to include “meaningful” surprises for consumers. “As for timing,” Iwata said at the time, “it may be three years from now, five years from now or eight years from now.”

They arent the most original where it comes to game branding, but console wise they do mix things up from time to time.

Even though its not really a surprise when the company thats generally been making something different and new, to make something different and new.

For all its knocks, you cant discredit the wii from a technological standpoint on motion control

Mate, you don’t understand what Nintendo do, do you?

In terms of graphics, yer ok, there a bit behind. But graphics do NOT make a game good. it makes it look good, but it dose not make a game good.

What makes a game is what Nintendo are trying to do.

I’m sorry jagi, I shall defer all nintendo questions to you in future…

But seriously. The wii was understandable but now that the era of standard definition is over, nintendo have to move into hd, look at higher capacity such as bluray or proprietry format and increase their hardware performance dramatically to stay competitive on the console front. As much as you may want to kid yourself, the wii did not capture the real gamer this generation, it captured children and casual gamers majoritively. But hey, live your fantasy…

And FYI, graphics might not be the most important thing but don’t kid yourself, they ARE an important selling point when it comes to marketing a game. How many times did we hear ‘Metroid Other M’ looks like a 360 or ps3 game!!!?

It is probably the console with the most under rated games library of all time.

These are the kind of things I reckon Nintendo will look at:

HD – It will have to be an HD console

Motion Control – Maybe a hybrid of Sony’s Move and Nintendo’s Power Glove… haha jk

Facial recognition – The console will include a camera/eye as standard and will recognizes who has turned it on and will remember all your preferences, maybe ask you if you’d like to load your save of the last game you were playing.

Interactivity – Nintendo are very focused on people gaming together. Perhaps the new console will register how many people are in front of the TV and automatically adjust a game to include everyone.

Whatever Nintendo do, it will all be based on the virtues they’ve established with the Wii: simplicity and innovatoin.

Nintendo: Look at our crazy new console full of crazy new and inventive ideas?
Us: Cool what games are going to be on it
    Nintendo: Mario, Zelda, Metroid.
    Us:…. -_-

Hmm so shall i pre-order my gamecube 3.0 then? I’d imagine now that since nintendo has done backwards compat. on the wii, then it’s going to continue on their next system which means the same architecture. I don’t for-see them doing a sony (ps2 engine in the ps3) and charging an exuberant amount like the launch ps3′s either.
