Team Fortress 2′s Heavy Finally Playable In… A Poker Game

12:00PM September 3, 2010 | Michael McWhertor

Telltale Games’ tease that featured a cryptic crossover between Homestar Runner, Penny Arcade, Sam & Max and Team Fortress 2 turns out to be the developer’s latest gambling game, Poker Night at The Inventory. Yeah.

The Heavy, Strong Bad, Tycho and Max the “hyperkinetic rabbity thing” will play what Telltale calls “a new style of poker” in Poker Night at The Inventory, which hits the PC and Mac for $US4.99 USD this fall.

“We’ve had the idea for some time of exploring the idea of what video characters do when they’re not ‘on the clock’ in the games we play,” explained Telltale CEO Dan Connors via the game’s announcement. “We pitched the idea to friends in the industry and it really resonated. We all had a great time imagining what these guys would banter about while slinging cards – from there Poker Night at The Inventory was born.”

The Steamworks-powered game has “more than a few surprises” still up its sleeve, according to its creators.

Telltale Games will be attending this weekend’s PAX convention in Seattle, Washington, takin’ pre-orders and handing out Poker Night at The Inventory posters. Bring an extra fiver!

Four beloved personalities in one game?!
This is an instant purchase, I’ll be buying it as soon as it is up on steam.

Looking forward to inevitable promotional items in tf2.

Yeah, I was hoping for something better.

SSB parody would have been good. C’est la vie!

Agreed, that was a pretty big anti-climax.

Disappointing certainly but there’s been worse. Remember the giant Bioware countdown to the best thing evaaaaar earlier this year that turned out to be an advertising based auction for useless crap that MOST of america and america alone were elligible to enter?

Never seen anything beat that for being a letdown

Not what I was expecting, nor hoping for, but certainly interesting. Never beena big poker player but with these chaacters, being made by telltale, not to mention only 5 bucks? I think I’ll be picking this up. Might hold out to see what it’s like at PAX first though.

About what I was expecting, so not too bad, and only $5 isn’t too bad, so, yeah, I’ll probably get it. I wonder what the TF2 pre-order will be, though :P

PC and Mac only? This news is useless to me.

… Don’t really know what you were expecting bro. A PC centric developer reveals a game staring 4 predominantly PC centric characters, and you’re upset?

BTW, if TellTale’s track record is anything to go buy, this will probably come out on WiiWare soon afterwards.
