Your Chance To Evolve Kotaku

Kotaku AU

So for the next three weeks, I’ll be playing the big boy role as the search for a new editor continues. While looking after the big K, I’ll be donning my nicest pair of worn-in jeans, treating myself to meals with vegetables, and forcing myself to get to bed before birds chirp outside my window. And for the good of the office, I’ll probably kick the ol’ personal hygiene up a notch.

But what does this changing of the guard mean for our favourite gaming otaku site? Well, how about you decide…

I plan on continuing the regulars left here by the Goose, but there’s no reason this three week period can’t be used to try a few new things out. If they flop, we had a go. If they prove popular, maybe it’ll become a permanent fixture.

As for who our new mystery man is, we’ll tell you as soon as we know. Hopefully we’ll have that info around next week.

I’ll get the ball rolling with a new thing soon called Community Review, a post-release opportunity for people to find out what the Kotaku crowd thinks about a game.

How about you? Any ideas you’ve had hidden away that would be perfect for special K? What regulars do you like/dislike? What would you like to see on the site?

How about a column on game music? Don’t really see much of that around here, but there’s many games with soundtracks that are well worth looking into. Take Chrono Cross: Opinions on the gameplay and story are rather varied, but most everybody can agree that the soundtrack is amazing.
A column on the music of new games could be nice.

A while ago, David would put up a top 10 best selling games for the week… I found this really interesting to see what games sold on which platform the best. It suddenly disappeared, so I asked David about it and he mentioned something changed and these stats were a little harder to get.

For a while there it was also a top 10 on each platform which was also cool to check out.

Is there some way this could be brought back?

I’m forever struggling to choose the correct food for a certain game.
Sometimes a game can be played with chips, depending on greasyness factors. Sometimes a hot soup can be consumed while play is still on.
Is there a game I can play while eating honey on toast??

So, a weekly Game vs Food advice post.

A thumbs up or down tally on articles or comments, so that people who don’t have a comment but agree / disagree with an article or comment can be involved.

I know that the appeal of Kotaku is the intelligent, moderated comment system… but I don’t think it would change if you added a more casual forum.

    Weeks best (funniest) comments?
Or they could be the most insightful (although isn’t that the community service?).

I second this, sister site Jalopnik has Comment of the Day, and it’s a nice way to highlight thoughtful or creative comments (helps to further encourage such comments too).

    please please please

Give us an option where we can be told if someone replied to our comment. The US kotaku have a log-in system and have a notifier if someone replied to my comment… Why can’t we have it here?

Guys the response to this has been fantastic. I’m currently tallying up all the suggestions for a meeting later today about how to implement some of these.

    Cheers!

The Metroid other M Community review was really great!

One of those a week would be really good I think.
