Aussie Nintendo Store: Sonic Boom!

It’s time for Aussie Wii owners to get their slice of the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 action, finally. With Sonic speeding so fast this week he’s dragged in a couple of other games with him, but at the same time (as per usual) some DSiWare games fall off from our European cousins’ update.

WiiWare
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (Sega, 1500 Points) – The people have been asking for it for years, a good classic Sonic game that doesn’t have any dodgy cutscenes, voice acting, Sonic’s friends or all the usual guff that has been making Sonic games terrible for the last decade. Finally though, it appears Sega has got it right with a ‘classic’ Sonic experience featuring enough new stuff to keep it fresh. This, of course, is just ‘Episode 1’ so, like all episodic games, it’s a little on the short side – but there is plenty to keep you coming back. The WiiWare version holds up very well against the HD consoles as well.

The one caveat? At 1500 Points or $22.50 (or more depending on where you buy your points) it’s mighty expensive, but for a Sonic game that nearly gets it right – perhaps it is worth it?

Miffy’s World (Biodroid, 1000 Points) – Miffy hits WiiWare with a cute and cuddly educational game for the younger ones. The game allows kids to play by themselves, or a parent can help with a second Wii Remote.

DSiWare
Academy: Tic-Tac-Toe Naughts & Crosses (Gamelion, 200 Points) – Doing what it says on the cover, this is the classic Tic-Tac-Toe game you all played in Maths while that teacher was talking about stuff you never ended up using in real life. Addition? Subtraction? How do they work?
