The Original Secret Pokémon Returns

Pokémon and Nintendo celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Gold and Silver by releasing the original secret Pokémon into the wild for a limited time. Here’s what you need to do to score Mew.

Game Freak programmer Shigeki Morimoto secretly programmed Mew into the Red and Blue versions of Pokémon prior to the release of those games in Japan. Intended as a secret accessible only by developers, glitches in Red, Blue, and Yellow allowed players to encounter the pink feline creature. Mew became a sensation, propelling the games to even greater heights of success.

Mew has never been a regularly occurring Pokémon in the franchise, available only through special distribution events, like the one Nintendo and Pokémon are holding this month.

In honour of the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver owners will be able to obtain Mew over their Wi-Fi connection using the Mystery Gift option. From October 15 to October 30, logging into the service will score players a level five Mew stored inside a Cherish Ball with a Premier Ribbon. As long as they have less than three Wonder Cards in their game, Mew will be theirs.

Pokémon fans mark your calendars!

So, based on the article, all one has to do is simply connect online?

I only just got the game so I do not know what the wonder cards are.

Wonder cards are just something you get when you download one of the event pokemon. The cards don’t actually do anything (in the english versions at least. I think in the Jap version you can use the card to give a copy of the pokemon to a friend via wifi)

      They can be deleted

Might be world wide. How can they stop it?

I imported the two recent Professor Layton games (Diabolical Box and Unwound Future) and both were still able to download the weekly puzzles.

This is pretty cool. I remember back in (must have been 90s, I’m sure), Nintendo had one of these things at a local shopping centre and me and my cousin went with our Gameboy Colors and Pokemon Red/Blue and they loaded us Mews. Really made my day.

I did something similar, except it was Pokemon Gold/Silver and they gave us a Celebi.

Also handed some kids ass to him in the card games. Good times

A Mew by just connecting online? Seems a bit easy, considering it’s a freakin’ Mew! I had to go to Toys R Us and connect to get a Jirachi, who cares about Jirachi?
