Kotaku has been told that Metal Gear Solid: Rising will miss 2011 and will instead hit in 2012. The multiplatform game trades the “Tactical Espionage Action” of the traditional Metal Gear Solid series for “Lighting Bolt Action”.
“Raiden” means “thunder and lighting” in Japanese.
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is involved in the project, but merely as the game’s executive producer and not as the title’s writer or designer.
Long waits for Metal Gear Solid games are not uncommon. Metal Gear Solid 4 was first shown at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show. It wasn’t released until June 2008.
Kotaku is following up with Konami and will update should the company comment.

I expect a great game if it’s taking them a few years for it to be released, then.
