Video Game Characters Are Older Than You Think

How old is your favourite video game character? Ten? Twenty? That’s nothing. Some of Nintendo’s characters are as old as the 121-year-old company itself if these old black and white photos are anything to go by.

They’re the work of David Cole, who has placed some of Nintendo’s most iconic characters not in screenshots or aspirational posters, but in photographs that date back to the Second World War (and even earlier).
