Cypress Hill "Singer" Suing Grand Theft Auto, Claims He’s The "Real" CJ

Michael “Shagg” Washington, a “backup singer” with rap act Cypress Hill, has decided in 2010 to sue Grand Theft Auto developers Rockstar for a game they released in 2004. Why? He reckons he’s the star of GTA: San Andreas.

Washington, who says he only just heard about the game from his nephew, is basing his case on the claim that in 2003 Rockstar met with him to speak about his life growing up in gangs, during which time he told the developers, among other things, “how the teen-agers (sic) in his gang rode around on bicycles”.

“The plaintiff had never seen the game. He did not own or play video games, but it seemed possible that he had been included in the game,” the official legal complaint reads. “He then recalled the meeting in or about 2003, and it began to dawn on him that his image had been stolen for the game.”

“Upon examination of images of ‘CJ’ and comparison to his photos from that year and other evidence, it became clear that Rockstar had stolen his image and never paid him.”

For his troubles, Washington – who is suing not only Rockstar but the game’s publisher Take-Two as well – is after 25% of the profits generated from sales of San Andreas. Which adds up to, oh, $US250 million.

Good luck with that, “Shagg”.

Take-Two has responded to the allegations with a brief statement, which reads “The Company believes the lawsuit is completely without merit and will vigorously defend itself in the matter.”

Sounds like Rockstar based the O.G. Loc character on him, a no talent wannabe rap star trying to back-door his way to success, fooling nobody. Amirite?

OH MY GOD, THEY USED BICYCLES, SUE THEM

and i’m sure that rockstar would have put something at the end like movies do that say “this is a work of fiction, any characters or events that bear similarities to real life people or events is purely coincidental” or something like that, and that should get them out of it

hell, i’d go for 0.1% of profits. at least that way you may actually succeed and you’d still get $100,000.

And several years after the release of GTA 4, a Bosnian immigrant sues Rockstar claiming that he is the “real” Niko Bellic.

Does this lawsuit mean Washington is admitting to countless charges of Grand Theft Auto, Murder, Manslaughter, Illegal Possession of firearms, theft, traffic crimes, and many more felonies?
After all, he does say it’s all based on him.

All jokes aside if they met with him and used his insights into life as the basis for parts of the game they may have a case to answer. It will all depend on the conditions of the actual meeting. If nothing was signed it could go either way. If an agreement of any kind was signed then it’ll be a fairly quick case – or should be.

He’s not now, nor has he ever been affiliated with Cypress Hill. That probably provides some clues as to the accuracy of the rest of his story….The term ‘Shaggy Dog Tale’ comes to mind….
