GT5′s Top End Steering Wheel Will Set You Back $US500

Pictures have circulated of the new Thrustmaster T500RS, a high-end racing wheel for for Gran Turismo 5, but nothing’s official yet and no one was clear on what it cost, until GT’s creator piped up over Twitter.

Five hundred bucks, said Kazunori Yamauchi to GTPlanet. It’ll feature three pedals, a high power motor, backlash-free belt drive and high speed processing with low latency. Yamauchi himself is fired up about it: “T500RS has great potential. I can not wait to launch the device.” he said over Twitter.

It’s a hell of a nice wheel but it’s a hell of a pretty penny to pay, too. Pictures at the link below.

Proper support of the G27 would have been better.

Apparently they are patching support in.

So you can use all 6 buttons on your wheels face, not just 2?

Of course… You’d then have to purchase a cockpit and bucket seat separately because these sorts of high-end wheels are horrible if simply clipped on a coffee table, or played on your lap.

You’re looking at closer to a flat grand for a really awesome experience.

Agreed. As much as I’m loving GT5 (and this is coming from somebody who never got into the earlier GTs and hadn’t bought one since the original GT on PS1), I’d love it even more with a wheel. But my coffee table is way too low – I’d have to sit all the way forward on the edge of the couch and kind of reach down to hold the wheel. I’d feel like I was driving a bus rather than a GTR or a Ferrari. Would probably be OK for driving the Kombi van, though :)

But yeah, I’d love a wheel but there’s no way I’m getting a separate chair/stand to go with it so I guess I’ll stick with the standard controller.

The wheel looks gorgeous, especially the pedals but $500 is rather steep and I think only the most hardcore GT5 fans will purchase this if anyone.

And that’s without the shifter, apparently that’s extra. Geeez, I was waiting to see if GT5 would inspire a new series of wheels. Might have to look at something older, or start believing in Santa again really REALLY hard.
