Comics legend James Kochalka (American Elf) has penned this great comic in the second issue of Kill Screen magazine, in which we get to the core of why so many people love playing as a tiny plumber in red overalls.

It’s a message worth remembering. All too often it’s easy to get caught up in the angry fringes of video gaming: the self-flagellation of achievement hunting, the social wasteland that is most online arenas. It’s nice to remember, from time to time, that games can as simple as an escape. Five minutes of fun.
