The game broke cover over the weekend for its full, proper reveal, complete with teaser trailer (below) and promise of an alpha release sometime in Q1 2011.
Since 2008 the project has been almost entirely re-worked, with a new engine leading to new art assets and an improvement in visuals we’re all appreciative of.
This is the second fan-made effort to release a 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game we’ve seen in only a few months, both of which look a lot more promising than the disappointing Sonic 4.

Seconded! Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still one of my favourite games, and I'd loe to see it modernised!

I say just do Sonic and Knuckles next. I want Knuckles to get some HD love as a playable character. :D
