The Dreamcast Collection Unveiled

Kotaku AU

We reported late last year that a Dreamcast Collection was being released for the Xbox 360, PC and digital download, but we now have a proper release date – and a list of the games making up the collection.

The Dreamcast Collection will be making its way to Australia on February 25, and the games in the package are…

- Sonic Adventure
- Crazy Taxi
- SEGA Bass Fishing
- Space Channel 5: Part 2

While every single game on the list is solid in its own right, I can’t help but think that SEGA has chosen… poorly on this occasion – to the extent that I would guess that SEGA has many more Collections on the way. The Dreamcast has a pretty much unrivalled back catalog of incredible cult hits, so we figure SEGA could squeeze out as many of these packages as they like.

What four games would you choose for the ideal Dreamcast Collection? Let us know in the comments below.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was the best…I’d buy that for the Chao Garden alone.

Funny, I picked up my Dreamcast mainly for Sonic Adventure and really liked it. Sonic Adventure 2 was an enormous disappointment. The two or so levels where they let you play as Sonic were cool. The rest of the game absolutely wasn’t. Plus it somehow got more buggy.

That has to be the most disappointing revelation of 2011. Four games, including two that already available via the PSN and XBLM.

    For shame, SEGA!!!!

Most disappointing revelation of 2011? That’s a pretty big call to be making on January 14 :P

But yeah, it’s pretty poor – having never owned a Dreamcast, I’d have expected to see Shenmue in there?

And why only 4 games, anyway? There were a hell of a lot more in the Megadrive collection.

If you had ever played Jet Set Radio, then you would know what a low blow this announcement is. Who would want to raise children in a world where SEGA releases collections like these?

My collection would be (MORE THAN 4 GAMES), but if it had to be a meagre amount of titles I would include:

        Jet Set Radio
        Crazy Taxi 2
        Soul Calibur
Dead or Alive 2 / Marvel VS Capcom 2

Yeah, it’s pretty poor form on SEGA’s behalf.

If they are going to release a collection of Dreamcast games they should have done it right the first time.

Release it with all the classics such as Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, Daytona, Dynamite Cop 1 & 2, Ecco, Jet Grind Radio, Power Stone 1 & 2, SEGA Rally, Shenmue 1 & 2, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, House of The Dead, Toy Commander, Virtua Fighter and more!

Would put the previously released Mega-Drive collection to shame.

I don’t understand why Sega would deliver this sort of sack slap if they were planning on releasing more later… Why destroy people’s confidence at the first stage?

I really hope that Space Channel 5: Part 2 is going to be released separately on XBLA like the others have been… I’ve known it was coming for a while and am really looking forward to it. Loved the first, never played the second.

Piss off. I just spent $85 on a copy of Space Channel 5: Part 2 for PS2 a few months ago.

Err… No Timestalkers, Power Stone or Soul Calibur on this occasion?

Wow only 4 games? I’d love to see how much wasted space is on a Blu-Ray because of this. Poor choice (for the consumers anyway), Sega. Real Sega/Dreamcast fans would get out the real thing anyway ;)

Okay, wow, that includes none of the games that I would have wanted. It doesn’t really look much like a “collection”. It’s only just hit beyond the “couple” status.

This whole endeavour by Sega to release Dreamcast games on XBLA has been completely pointless, the Sonic Adventure port is in 4:3, Crazy Taxi feels wrong with the music and advertising stripped out and I haven’t even heard of those other two games.

Where’s Jet Set Radio or Shenmue or Chu Chu Rocket? What about that Boxing Game (the name has totally escaped me)
