Final Fantasy’s Fighter Knocks Out The Competition In Japan

The Nintendo 3DS had a great second week in Japan, with another 200,000 gamers snapping up stereoscopic 3D hardware. But it was a PSP game that dominated the software charts (again), with Square Enix’s dramatic fighting game adventure Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy dominating the sales charts.

The latest Dissidia sold an impressive 286,117 copies in its first week of release, knocking former software champ Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity down to sixth place. Spike’s Way of the Samurai 4 also debuted, placing second and giving the PlayStation 3 some top 10 representation.

Nintendo 3DS games continue to sell well with the latest Professor Layton and Nintendogs leading the pack. Nine out of ten of the best-selling games in Japan are for handheld platforms, thanks to strong showings from the 3DS and PSP.
