“We really tried hard to make this happen but not one publisher we talked to thought a retail budget title for the Wii would be profitable at this point in the Wii’s life cycle,” wrote Edmund McMillen, Super Meat Boy’s co-creator, “and we totally understand that.”
Super Meat Boy couldn’t fit inside the 40MB WiiWare cap without making sacrifices that McMillen and co-creator Tommy Refenes found unacceptable, mostly in the game’s soundtrack. Exploring retail possibilities in December, Team Meat found little interest. “So far, the three biggest [publishers contacted by Team Meat]say there’s no money in third-party retail (on the Wii),” McMillen told Kotaku, “but we are still asking.”
At the time McMillen said he and Refenes were still committed to doing a game on a Nintendo platform. It evidently won’t be Super Meat Boy.

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 1:55 PMI would buy the shit out of a retail Super Meat Boy on Wii. MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU DAMN PUBLISHERS.
I wonder if they tried Rising Star? They usually seem to be pretty good on picking up more odd titles like this.

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 3:37 PMGet with the times, Nintendo! Remember when XBLA had a ~50mb limit? We’ve come a long way, baby, but it seems that Ninty hasn’t been carpooling with the rest of us.

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 4:47 PMShame, one the the great buys in the xmas steam sale that I bought. Its a great game that would cater to the Wii audience greatly. I work in a games outlet, and I am telling you, this would sell off it’s tits, especially if it was cheap. I could recommend a platformer that is similar to the big platformers on Wii atm, at a cheap price. Customers would love it. Baffles me why it is not happening.
