Yes, the first expansion pack to Arrowhead Studios’ runaway PC role-playing hit Magicka is titled Magicka: Vietnam. It’s OK to be a little speechless here. We’re right there with you.
Magicka is an action role-playing game that’s won the hearts of PC gamers around the world with its combination of intelligent action and tongue-in-cheek humor. Now the mysterious robed figures players control will be picking up machine guns and donning military helmets in Magicka: Vietnam. Oh my god.
From the official announcement press release:
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if wizards were allowed to roam the jungles of war-torn Vietnam, attempting to bring peace and stability to the region by casting spells on all opponents? Wait, you haven’t ever wondered that? Ever? Okay, so we’re probably the only ones who have but in our defense: here’s your chance to stop being so closed-minded. Magicka: Vietnam delivers over-the-top action as players take on the role of four meek and physically inept wizards as they try to do what so many 80′s action stars have done in the past: blow stuff up.
As someone who’s played in many ridiculous Dungeons & Dragons sessions in which my character was mysteriously warped into modern day situations, I proudly don my robe and combat helmet.
Look for Magicka: Vietnam to hit all major digital distribution channels “soon”.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 12:37 PMFrom all reports it’s been perfectly playable for most people for the last couple of weeks now, so hopefully they’ve got the worst of the bugs squashed now.
From comments both on this site and others it seems like a lot of people have been holding off buying it till it’s been ‘fixed’ (myself included), the only problem is that such things are never offical (or announced as such), so you never know till you try it I suppose.
This trailer was the tipping point for me, I’ll be picking it up tonight to do just that.
