For those of you who haven’t played this SquareSoft great, Vagrant Story is a fantastic mix of dungeon crawling, puzzle-solving, rhythmic gameplay and weapon customisation. For $US5.99, it’s a steal through the PlayStation Store. It’s also one of the Square Enix properties most in need of some attention from the developer/publisher.
Vagrant Story comes to PlayStation 3 and PSP on March 1, 2011.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 1:45 PMI was thinking the same thing.
I purchased it a long time ago and simply cannot get into it.
Can anybody tell me if it has a slow start or if it is just really really overrated?

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2:15 PMIt’s just a friggin hard game.
I hired it back in the day and thought the same. Same vid store years later and I bought it. Grabbed a guide from EB for $2 and started playing properly.
You have to make a weapon for each monster type. Some weapons can be two types as long as they arent opposing and you can’t get the true ending without finishing twice, it’s a new game plus scenario so should be easier the second time!
I’ve never finished it, it’s just so hard to balance the weapon creation that I always get led astray by far easier games.
I still own it, and I’m sure when my kid/s grow up I’ll go back and try again. The time and effort you have to invest is very taxing. But I loved the design and story.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 8:29 PMI finished it back on the PS1 with two weapons… IIRC a regular weapon that I used most of the time and another one for killing enemies that couldn’t be killed with the regular weapon. Don’t remember it being too hard…

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 12:12 PMMy PSN account is tied to the US and Vagrant Story is my favourite game of all time. The wait has been long but I’m finally going to be able to (legitimately) play Vagrant Story on my PSP without having to resort to switching accounts etc.
I guess I’ll pick up Xenogears while I’m at it.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 12:33 PMStep 1. Get this. There’s a good chance you’ve never heard of it, let alone played it. But now you’re going to get it because it will cost you spare change.
Step 2. Realize that not ALL j-rpgs have formulaic, repetitive gameplay and trite, predictable story. More importantly, that they can be HARD as *insert expletive*
Step 3. ????
Step 4. Joy
