Rebellion Has Sniper Elite V2 In Its Sights For 2012

It’s been six years since the last time Rebellion took us to the high perches of World War II Europe in Sniper Elite. I’d say it’s high time for another, wouldn’t you?

2005’s Sniper Elite for the PlayStation 2, original Xbox, Windows PC and (eventually) Wii was a mouthful of tightly held fresh air for shooter fans that prefer to stalk and snipe rather than charging directly into the fray. Now Rebellion teams with game publisher 505 Games to give us a fresh new installment of the third-person tactical shooter in 2012.

Sniper Elite V2 will take us back to World War II for another go at creating a fresh batch of potential Nazi zombies. We’ve not much more than a screenshot currently, but we can pretty much imagine the sort of gameplay we can expect to see.

“We’re very excited to be working with Rebellion on this highly anticipated sequel. Sniper Elite has always been the benchmark of the genre and never been bested… until now,” said Ian Howe, Managing Director of 505 Games. “We guarantee that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter.”

Sniper Elite V2 is aimed at the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. Sniping fans should have no problem whatsoever waiting until then.
