So yeah. We can’t play the new Mortal Kombat (well some of us can’t – wink wink) but at least we can play Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection on XBLA and PSN – right guys? Am I right? [Awkward silence] .
Today Warner Bros announced the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which bundles Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in one awesome downloadable package on XBLA, PC and the PSN. It will be available at some point this winter (no official date yet) for AU $12.95 on the PSN and 800 points on Xbox LIVE.
“We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “With the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them.”
It’s better than nothing folks!

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:08 AMHmm… I already bought Mortal Kombat 2 on the PS3 ages ago. Didn’t think it had aged very well, to be honest – I’ll give this a miss.
Might keep an eye out for the new MK going cheap and import that instead.

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 12:10 PMAs far as I’m aware – the MK2 on PSN is the PSX version of the game, whereas these are ported straight from the arcade games.
Don’t know if that makes a massive difference, but apparently it’s there.

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:05 PMI also have MKII on my ps3 and I’m pretty sure it’s the Arcade version running through Emulation… but yeah, I’m not sure how much of a difference that really makes either. I only ever played the Arcade version of MKII…

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:41 AMYes, UMK3 used to be on XBLA, but it was removed sometime around the collapse of Midway.

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:22 AMJust wanted to state, I didn’t get the newest mortal kombat delivered to me from Britain. I haven’t already been playing it and actually beaten the game a few times now, and I definitely don’t want to point out that it is the easiest thing to import from over seas. ;)

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 4:02 PMI wouldn’t describe the downloads from that site as legal. Assuming no further copyright extensions, the first Mortal Kombat game won’t go out of copyright until 2062 here and 2087 in the US. Until that point, distributing the games without a license is copyright infringement.
The fact that Warner Bros. plans to sell these games for $13 shows that believe the games still hold value, so it isn’t clear you can even morally write them off as abandoned.

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:51 AMI’ll probably get this one PSN but the thing I hate most about these repackaged games is that they’re not full screen, they’ve got that annoying custom border around them. The games are often advertised as being re-released in HD which to me should indicate at least a proper conversion to the 16:9 standard. Hell, I’d actually be happy for the picture to look slightly stretched.

Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:04 AMNice! Its good that we are getting them, and at an awesome price.
It’s just a pity its not the HD-remake that was rumoured to be in production.
