Creator Markus “Notch” Persson has said that his studio, Mojang, will not be developing the game. Instead, a developer that has “done several console games before” will be handling the project, with Persson acting as game designer.
He also says that the Xbox 360 version of the game is not “a straight port”, suggesting that the integration with Microsoft’s Kinect camera may be more than just a gimmick.
Or a gimmick that ruins a perfectly fine game. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 10:55 AMI am 90% certain that, no matter what, they’re not going to do anything to screw up the /already existing/ versions of Minecraft. So, y’know. There’s always that. ;p

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 5:44 PMConsidering how horribly slow Minecraft runs on even the beefiest computer, whether that be Persson or Java to blame (I choose to blame Java, because it’s Java), I’m kinda glad he’s not going to be the developer. Also, this gives them more time to work on improving Vanilla Minecraft.

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 9:23 PMI blame your computer. I have seen it running fine on horrible hardware. My modest computer gets over 60fps.

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10:06 PMPretty sure your computer is just plain bad. On both my desktop and my crummy netbook I get fine fps.

Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 1:16 AMI’ve seen Minecraft ‘running’ on at least 5 different machines… from a higher-end gaming desktop to a decent laptop that’s about a year and a half old… and I haven’t seen it running smoothly yet :-P
So you’re not alone.

Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 5:12 PMMy computer is over five years old. Even then it was probably around average quality, if not worse. And MineCraft has slowed for me 2 or 3 times.

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 7:05 PMI have a computer that cost me less than a grand, over 18 months ago, and I haven’t really noticed much of a problem with how Minecraft runs.

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 8:32 PMIndeed. Microsoft CAN’T ruin Minecraft, the worst they can do is green-light a worse version on their platform. If so, just buy it on PC.
To be honest, I welcome the move. I suspect Persson would have received a nice deal out of this, and it might end up with a superior product, with the core concept being expanded upon by a large and experienced team. We shall have to wait and see.

Friday, June 10, 2011 at 9:27 PMYeah I’m actually glad it isn’t mojang.
Considering they can’t finish ONE game before starting another it seems stupid that Microsoft would employ them to design for a console.
