The countdown has ended and Sony Online Entertainment has pulled back the curtain on Planetside 2, the sequel to the ambitious 2003 massively multiplayer online first-person shooter.
While we’ll have more on the new game tomorrow morning, from the assets alone you can easily determine that the three factions from the original game – Terran Republic, Vanu Sovereignty and the New Conglomerate – will be making a return, charging headlong into heated battle for the control of whatever it is they’re fighting over. Saying anything else would be telling, and there’ll be plenty of time for that tomorrow morning.
Until then, enjoy the pretty pictures!

Friday, July 8, 2011 at 1:39 PMThe original Planetside dealt with it in a pretty good way. I don’t know if this is fact, but it felt like as long as you could see the bad guy and shoot it would count (even if he was technically somewhere else on his computer).
This made for some unfair deaths but responsive FPS style gaming.
Planetside2 looks pretty good… but IMO this game will have to win on its experience, not graphics.

Monday, July 11, 2011 at 3:49 PMI’ve been playing the original Planetside for the last 7 or 8 years. I’ve contantly gotten an average of a 250 ping to the planetside server in North America. It is very playable with a ping that high, But I would be stoked if that went down to 100 or 150 in the new PS2. As Richard said though, you do suffer a few unfair deaths, especially when running from an Orbital Stirke I’ve found ;-) VS Rule All!!!
Sweet concept art too!
