It looks as though Major Nelson, via his blog, has inadvertently announced the existence of a Sonic CD port for XBLA. Considering the fact that some Sonic fans consider Sonic CD to be the best iteration of the franchise, this is pretty interesting news.
Buried casually in between a list of other, already known releases, Sonic CD is listed as being available to play among games such as Trine 2, Ms. Explosion Man and Trials Evolution.
At the moment we have no idea when the game will be released and at what cost – but at a rough guess we’re expecting 800MS points and a release before Christmas.
We’re currently chasing with Microsoft for confirmation.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 9:31 AMThat’s pretty cool news. This game was the reason I shelled out a ridiculous amount of money for a Mega CD. Totally worth it at the time.
If you’re chasing Sega for information, want to find out what has happened to the standalone release of Space Channel 5 Part 2 for XBLA? I want to buy it but refuse to pay $30+ for a compilation disc where I don’t want to play any of the other games!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:17 AMNot even sonic adventure? Awww…
I have an idea, we’ll go halves and I’ll keep sonic and you keep space channel…huh, HUH!?

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:29 AMNope. Two reasons:
- I already have it on Dreamcast (as well as Crazy Taxi and Bass Fishing, for that matter)
- I played the XBLA demo and it was terrible

My idea makes no sense.
Yeah I have it on DC, by DC died though…

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:25 PMThe other disadvantage (which I found out the hard way) is that even if you install it to the hard drive on a 360, the games still run off the disk for some reason.
Mind you, my copy came with the collector’s vinyl so I can’t complain.

Sonic CD is totally worth it…. if it has the Japanese Soundtrack.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:45 AMI played it in the Sonic Gems collection on PS2 but got frustrated on some level near the end where I was chasing Robotnik and the screen was scrolling and if you couldn’t keep up you’d die.
That game needed a spin dash.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:33 PMSonic CD has the worst level design of any Sonic game, ever! I was totally disappointed when I finally got to play this, and Knuckles Chaotix for that matter, after years of hearing how great it was. Worst of all the original Sonic games, cant compare to Sonic 2/Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:25 PMIt better have the option of BOTH soundtracks. I’m not a fan at all of the US soundtrack, the Japanese/Euro is the one I grew up with, so it would be nice to have the option of choosing which one to listen too…

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 4:19 PMI’d be getting this if I didn’t already have the Sonic Gems collection. Only shame is that that includes the US soundtrack, not the Japanese/European one.
And is the PC version with loading screens (don’t remember them from the MegaCD version).
What’s the betting that this is the PC version again, with loading screens and the US soundtrack…

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 2:08 AMThey better put in the Japanese/European soundtrack. Or at least give you the option to choose between the Japanese and the US one for those who like the US one.
