Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 8:04 AMThis is odd. I saw a “Game of the Year” edition of Civ V in JB Hi Fi Bourke St yesterday. Also, it’s been on “Coming soon” at Green Man Gaming for a few days now. Pretty sure both of these had the same content as the one mentioned in this article.
I’ve been paying attention to this game because I bought it on the recent Steam sale.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:01 PMAnd in response to the guys below, I think it’s a fantastic game.
Best to read a few reviews and make up your own mind. There are a lot of views like the guys below floating around but it is also consistently one of the top-played games on Steam so it can’t be too glitchy. As for the gameplay changes, some people love them some hate them.
I’m happy to have bought it for $20. All the DLC isn’t worth an extra $30 and the GOTY edition won’t go on sale for <$30 for ages.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:55 AMOh look it’s that game. You know, the shit one that held so much promise.
Big fanboi since original civ but they have finally broken me with civ5.
Release was a crappy broken sucky game.
First “Patch” was 5 gig. FIVE FUCKING GIG!!! That’s not a patch that’s a new freakin GAME!
A year later and it’s still not right.
To this day you have to watch a blank screen where the intro movie was every time you start it because they can’t code to save themselves ffs.
Windowed resolutions are still fucked up. Turns auto end even when you have the option switched off, units skip turns, routing of units still screwed, occasionally move through two tiles to get to an adjacent tile , still crashes occasionally, diplomacy all screwed, can’t auto improve just one city with workers, the list just never ends.
Save yourself the hassle. Leave this game in the bargain bin.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:00 PMI’d be pissed if I had just bought it for $20 in the recent Steam sale.
I bought it soon after release for $80 and have sunk many hours into it. I don’t have the DLC as they always looked overpriced for what you were getting.
Whilst I agree with EmbraceThePing on some of the gameplay points, I’ve never had a technical issue with the game.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:26 PMCiv V GOTYE has been around for a while… but I wonder if this is going to end up the same way Neverwinter Nights did when expansions kept coming out afterwards (so there was a Gold Edition then a Platinum Edition then a Diamond Edition… Super Hyper Turbo Alpha Deluxe Mega Plus etc.)
methinks I’ll hold off until maybe GOTY version 3 (or Super GOTYE or whatever else they deign to call it)
