Final Fantasy X Is Coming To PlayStation Vita And PS3 In HD

Square Enix will bring PlayStation 2 role-playing game Final Fantasy X to the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3, the company announced today, giving the 2001 video game a high definition makeover.

The game’s publisher called the HD upgrade a “special 10th anniversary production” but did not show the Vita and PS3 version in action, only saying that the specs for each version of Final Fantasy X would be similar. No date yet and no word on that Final Fantasy VII remake you were hoping for, but a potentially good sign for the Vita.

  Maybe I’m in the minority, but I loved the shit out of FFXII. I’ve played since VI, but XII is probably my favourite just because the story wasn’t as manhandled as their modern games but mostly because they just ripped off Star Wars which I also love.

For those who want FF7 instead, keep in mind that its much more difficult to do. FF 10 requires essentially new high res models and assets. FF7 requires a brand new game engine, along with assets, and possibly re-rendered cg scenes or 3d maps. This would change the gameplay significantly. Stop asking, enjoy the old one!

  Agreed,I really don’t want this whole HD Remake scenario to become a trend in gaming for the next few years because it could lead to developers losing focus or delayment of furutre releases. It’s just best to appreciate the game how it is originally, now matter how pixelated or outdated it is, that’s where the real magic lies.

  I doubt there’ll be any updated assets apart from a redrawn UI (perhaps). These HD ports are pretty much straight-up ports except that they render at 720p.

well now there is 1 game I’m interested in for the PS Vita.

Is there any information regarding if you buy it for the PS3 you get a copy for the PS Vita too?

depending on the price I may get the vita just for this. (FFX is tied for my all time favourite game, with Zelda: Majora’s Mask)

Methinks its all part of their plan… FFX would get fans revved up. Probably gonna work their way down, and right at the end the crown jewel FFVII.

Think about it… if they released FFVII first… the rest of the sales would probably suffer… and who wants to throw their trump card out first?

I was just planning recently on upgrading my computer so among other things I could use PCSX2 to play this game in something of a HD upscale. But now I’ll be able to legitimately play this in real HD. 😀 😀 😀

  I foolishly attempted this with a pathetic excuse for a computer. Everything would slow down to 1/2 a frame per second before a battle… meaning every battle I got into took longer to get INTO than to finish XD

  Well I found X-2 to be ok but everyone says it’s not as good/was terrible, but yeah I guess I was just walking around doing ‘missions’ and there was no actual quest, the closest thing to a plot was when some people decided to leave town without telling anyone or leaving a note, I thought something exciting had happened, but when I found them they were all ‘ohai’ and then I was annoyed.
  
  In fact, it was almost like playing Tombi/Tomba, except Tombi/Tomba had replay value.

I played the first couple hours of this game but just couldn’t get into it. Dunno why…

I was one of the few people who really dug FF12 too, but didn’t own my own copy/PS2 console at the time…

Either way, I’ve been wanting to give X another shot and actually get my own copy of XII as well.

So this is welcome news for me 🙂

  You mean the guy who didn’t read the tutorials and sat there for hours drawing? The guy who couldn’t understand the game in any way? You should link to that. People should watch that video and see somebody who was biased before filming, then gave no solid reasons for the hate.
  
  If you don’t like it, cool. However, if you’re going to make a video of it, at least show why in clear terms.
