Oh, what a thrill — with darkness and silence through the night — Metal Gear Solid HD Collection finally has an Australian release date. Someday, I’ll feed on a tree frog, and that day is February 2, 2012.
And as much as I’m glad we finally have a concrete date, I’m a little disappointed in the fact that the game is arriving three months late, with the US version is shipping in November. This delay isn’t exclusive to Australia either – the European release date is actually February 3.
We asked Mindscape, the local distributor why PAL territories were receiving the game after NTSC.
“The US and Japan HD collections will only include Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker,” said a Mindscape representative. “Yes, PAL territories and Europe will receive the game a little later, but our version will be more worthwhile. It will feature five massive titles with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake also included.”
Just as a quick note, I’m listening to this as I write.
SNAAAAAAAKE EAAAAAAAATTTTTTER!

Load of crap. Everyone gets the Subsistence version of MGS3, which includes MG1 and 2 by default.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:14 PMThis is correct, the Mindscape guy is clueless at best, misleading at worst:

Straight from Kojima directly. The US version is MGS2, MGS3, PW, MG1, MG2 and may or may not (it’s a bit confusing how he’s worded it) have a download code for MGS1 as well.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 5:19 PMWould be super stupid if it didn’t include MGS1.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:05 PMAny speculation on pricing yet? I’d love to ditch my NTSC PS2 ‘complete’ collection.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:08 PMIs there a reason why the original metal gear solid isn’t in this collection?
Or is there no such game?
I’m a n00b when it comes to MGS, and this was going to be my starting point

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:09 PMThere is a Metal Gear Solid 1 but I’m not sure as to why it’s not included.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:14 PMMGS is already available digitally on the PSN.
So you’re kinda boned if you don’t have a PS3 or PSP or a PS2 or a PS1 or a GCN.
Trjn
Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:37 PMOr a Wii, which can play the GCN copy.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:14 PMLast time (to my knowledge) MGS1 was re-released it was on Gamecube, perhaps there’s some Sony/Nintendo licensing issues?

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:15 PMIGN has reported that there is an Ultimate edition which comes with a code to download MGS1 from the PSN, but obviously no details if we will get this edition over here…

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 3:31 PMI thought the delay at least was already known for the EU/AU market, this just confirms a release date.
Personally, I don’t mind this delay, this will be a few weeks before the release of the PSV locally, so I honestly think this was done to tie in with the PSV and all the transfarring features the game will be able to share between each other.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:20 PMtoo many games coming out at the end of this year to care about reboots being delayed… gives me time to finish the rest of the games I haven’t touched yet.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:33 PMyeah. Although I’d like to be able to get it the same time as everyone else I have plenty of games I can play for now. :)

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:23 PMHopefully Ozgames still have their copies on the 11th and this delay doesn’t affect their customers, or else I’m cancelling my preorder with them and importing direct from the US
toasey
Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 5:43 PMCorrect me if I am wrong but Ozgameshop sell UK games and yes it is the PAL regions (AUS and UK) which are delayed til Feb.
HolyAura
Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:28 PMa three months delay compared to US? no wonder Australia commonly breaks street dates.
I mean, c’mon does it REALLY take 3 months to ship to Australia?
Daniel
Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:33 PMWow, I thought this kind of practice was a thing of the past.
Looks like I’ii be importing.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 6:03 PMReleases have generally been decent in recent years for a lot of major releases. Whilst 3 months is very little compared to what we in PAL territories used to have to wait, it still seems like Konami’s gone back in time 5 years.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:21 PMHmm, so no one’s blamed Eb, Game or JBHiFi over prices, releases and other things only vaguely and not entirely within their control today? I wonder what amazement tomorrow will bring.

Friday, October 28, 2011 at 12:23 AMOh well…thank god for that region free PS3 that I have :) I will just order it from Amazon or Play Asia

Friday, October 28, 2011 at 12:40 AMLike people won’t just import the fuck out of this. Nice move Konami.
djmcbell
Friday, October 28, 2011 at 5:26 PMYeah, but it seems the only place you’ll be able to import from is America or Japan as Europe also gets it in February.
Also, seems Japan gets an MGS1 download code with theirs (PS3 version only).
