Occasionally bearded actor Robin Williams named his daughter after the oft-kidnapped princess of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda. That naming choice seems to have imbued young Zelda Williams with preternatural Master Sword skills in the recently released downloadable version of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures.
Robin and Zelda continue to promote Zelda games in this TV spot for The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, which hit the Nintendo eShop and DSiWare last week. It won’t cost you a cent, but it cost Mr. Williams a good six months’ worth of facial hair growth.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition for DSi and 3DS is free for a limited time. Here’s our impressions.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 1:50 PMI think i preferred him with his beard. made me think of Santa. which with his voice and face would be an awesome Santa. Just keep him fed with Valium and kept calm, he wouldn’t be a good Santa excited he gets kinda nuts.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 2:12 PMHmm as much as I think it’s nice Nintendo has given us a free game I don’t think it was very smart to spend millions in advertising just to … advertise a GBA game.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 2:41 PMMost of marketing is about brand awareness. This isn’t selling a free GBA title, it’s selling Nintendo as a brand.
Just like those annoying DS ads with Olivia Newton John or Delta Goodram (sp?), they aren’t selling you the specific title but the Nintendo brand.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 2:53 PMYou do realize how hirsute Williams is? With his shirt off he looks like he’s wearing a wet suit. I bet he grew that beard on the way into the studio on the morning of the commercial shoot…
