A Song That Makes Me Want To Play Minecraft And Cry

Laura Shigihara, the woman that brought zombies to lawns everywhere lends her soft voice to the hard edges of Minecraft in her latest creation, “Cube Land”, an oddly emotional tune for such a procedural world.

The artist behind the ending theme song for Popcap’s Plants Vs. Zombies takes a break from silly songs about silly things to deliver something a bit more personal and profound. She passed the song on to me late last week, along with the following message:

“I know this will seem weird after the string of silly videos I send you… but I wanted to share something that was a bit more personal. It’s a music video that was inspired by a six-hour Minecraft session that got me thinking a lot about escapism and overcoming things I was going through at the time. I started on this project almost a year ago, thinking I would finish it in a week… but I didn’t finish it until last night. I guess it’s a bit dark and sad, but it’s really supposed to be hopeful 🙂 Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.”

I’ve enjoyed it. In fact I’ve guarded it jealously for days before finally passing it on to you people. Try and be gentle with it; it’s a far more delicate thing than I’m used to sharing.
