Carmen Sandiego Movie Being Produced By Jennifer Lopez

Kotaku AU

Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got, she’s still Jenny from the block. Also, Jennifer Lopez is now lined up to produce, and possibly star in, a movie based on the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego – the old education game that pretty much every human being in Australia between the age of 25 and 35 played in school at least once.

The movie is being produced by Walden Media, most famous for producing some of the Chronicles of Narnia movies. According to the official Carmen Sandiego site, the movie is set to be a cross between National Treasure and the Thomas Crown Affair.

Is there anything Hollywood won’t pillage? Prepare your nostalgia blinkers to ‘disappoint’.

J. Lo set to produce Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego movie [Carmen Sandiego]

Thanks Lambo!

They still make this? I’ve got a CD-ROM of this on my shelf. You never know, it might be… ah, it’ll be crap.

The game series went downhill too. I saw one for PS2, and it was an action platformer where you play as a ninja….

    This movie will suck.

    I’m helping? :P
This does sort of have a chance of being good/okay. The writers aren’t being held back by any pre-determined stories they have to work with and can create something entirely new. So I’m maybe slightly optimistic for this. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into another Alvin and the Chipmunks *shudder*

Maybe they can use the animated series as the inspiration.

And while we are on the subject of video game films, I’d like to see pixar make a sam and max film :P

Sam and Max are more of a Dreamworks thing. If Pixar was going to do Lucasarts, they’d do Loom or Grim Fandango. Which would be just fine.

True… but Stever Purcell does work at Pixar, so it could happen.

        Maybe.

        Please?

Yeah, you’re probably right, but if there was a S&M movie made, it’d probably be made by pixar because Steve Purcell (the S&M creator) works at Pixar in story development.

I never played this at school. I feel like my childhood was lacking now. :(
We did play this really cool dragon game though. I wish I could remember what it was.

I think we’re breaking Mark’s age bracket thingy. I’m outside it and played this game at school, you’re inside it and didn’t play this game at school.

      Chaos and outrage!

I don’t think so. I was in year 5 so it would have been about 1986. I think it had dragon eggs in it that you had to hatch. I can’t remember much, it was so long ago.

Or, potentially, the D&D Dragonlance “Dragon Lance” flight-sim-dragons-and-lancing game?

I also did not play this.

I remember watching the cartoon and thinking she was hot… ah, to be 15 again.

This brings back memories, except I would have preferred ‘Where in Time is CS’…I only hope this film will not be full of bitter disappointment.

    “..cross between National Treasure..”

Anything that uses this as a comparison point gets one response:

    NO!

Hater’s gonna hate, ’cause I like those National Treasures. They definitely have that globe-trotting, mystery-hunting vibe that Carmen Sandiego has.

Also if Jennifer Lopez is playing Carmen then I say, OK.

I would prefer that they source their ideas from the “Where The **** is Carmen Sandiego” sketch…

Mind you, any film that wants to tell the story of some of the stuff that was stolen by her goons might just be amusing!

I remember playing this, but I don’t think it was in school… Hm…

It could be fun as long as it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I will see this if it isn’t an educational movie. i don’t need to lern none.

I am 19 and I played Where in the World and Where in Time. Preferred Time, but I still get frustrated thinking about the damn moon light/kimono challenge.
