EA Smashes Battlefield’s Banhammer With Relish

Possibly in response to the XP exploit discovered last week, Electronic Arts has touted the hundreds of summary bannings it has handed out in Battlefield 3 and said it has nooooo problem handing out more. You want to boost for XP repairing an EOD robot, you little shits? I’ve got your arse for the rest of your natural born life if you don’t watch your step.

“We’ve banned hundreds of hackers this week alone, and we are determined to punish the players who play without integrity,” the official Battlefield Twitter account said in a series of three tweets. “A patch is just around the corner, and we will continue to ban cheaters. We take it seriously. That is our attitude here at Battlefield. We have zero tolerance for cheating players and are banning more all of the time.”

The patch, presumably, will address the XP exploit, which drove its discoverer insane with regret on Wednesday.

But that won’t be the only fix. Tactical flashlights will get nerfed, as well. Many players have complained of how bright they are, even in daylight surroundings, and DICE is listening. You may see a comparison of before-and-after flashlight screens in this tweet from DICE’s Alan Kertz.

Great news about those annoying flashlights, good idea but far too bright. Can’t see that comparison pic though as I refuse to do that twitter nonsense.

Also the sun in most maps is incredibly bright too, when you look at it, it takes up like 40% of your screen.

When you look at it? It’s a good thing the game doesnt go realistic and leave you permanent blind or have a blindspot for the entire round :S

They’re banning hackers and punishing (stat wiping) boosters.

        What he said..

“what, i skimmed the article, said something about being banned for repairing, thought i better put my 2 cents in”

It’s about time, if EA truly wanna support BF3 so that it is a great experience long term they need to set a precedence early. If you’re not going to play nice, go do it somewhere else.

No, people are shooting their own eods then repairing them and repeating, while hiding in the back of the map. Boosting at its stupudiest.

Is it wrong that I thought that pic was from Not Another Teen Movie, before I realised it was from The Breakfast Club?

I’ve got a 180 lumens Fenix flashlight and it shines pretty bright even in the day time. When aimed straight at someone you do blind them, the bright centre is small but the halo stops you seeing anything but the very edge of your view.

Now if you got yourself a SureFire M6 Guardian you’d be getting a 500 lumens flashlight that can temporarily blind a person if you’re not too careful.

I have a few torches like that as well, some of the 800+ lumen models easily blind me in the middle of the day. and from 4 or 5 meters away.

don’t nerf the flashlight FFS!! MP443 with Tactical Light has saved me so many times and got me a fair amount of kills as well. Wankers. I am all for banning the boosters but please don’t fuck with the flashlight.

As unrealistically blinding that flashlight is in daylight, its been an interesting tactic :)

In alls eriousness though i can understand a laser still blinding someone in daylight but not a high powered flashlight…

the flashlight gets nerfed, but what about the scope glint in PITCH BLACK DARKNESS? seriously, its as bright as a flashlight in levels like the subway on op metro.

Same thing happened in BC2… or was it BC1 where you flipped the jeep and just continually reparied it. Glad to hear they are actually banning people for it this time around :)

Essentially they are banning people for finding an exploit that their QA team didn’t find, and the beta didn’t discover.

EA is full of idiots to be honest.
