Skyrim Patch 1.2 Discreetly Disposes Of Dead Wedding Guests

Already available on the PlayStation 3 (though masquerading under the name 2.01), the 1.2 patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out for the PC and Xbox 360 on Wednesday, and the plague of marital corpses finally comes to an end.

Containing perhaps the most entertaining bug fix listing I’ve seen since they started fixing bugs, the Skyrim 1.2 update handles a handful of annoying (and entertaining) little bugs, while taking care of some performance and functionality fixes at the same time.

That’s right, no more dead wedding guests, no more soulless dragons, and PC players reluctant to hook a game pad to their machine finally have the ability to hit escape to exit menus.

Let’s look at the full list of fixes and updates.

UPDATE 1.2 NOTES (all platforms unless specified)

Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)
Fixed issue where textures would not properly upgrade when installed to drive (Xbox 360)
Fixed crash on startup when audio is set to sample rate other than 44100Hz (PC)
Fixed issue where projectiles did not properly fade away
Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player’s wedding dead
Dragon corpses now clean up properly
Fixed rare issue where dragons would not attack
Fixed rare NPC sleeping animation bug
Fixed rare issue with dead corpses being cleared up prematurely
Skeleton Key will now work properly if player has no lockpicks in their inventory
Fixed rare issue with renaming enchanted weapons and armor
Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death
ESC button can now be used to exit menus (PC)
Fixed occasional mouse sensitivity issues (PC)
General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls (PC)

What about the troll sending me into the stratosphere problem when he hits me?

Looks like that might be a deliberate feature.

Troll or giant? Giants send you flying, trolls shouldn’t.

I think that when a character dies in Skyrim, something happens to its weight. If a troll staggers you on a death blow and your weight is not right, physics takes over & sends you flying.

It’s actually the physics engine in the game. 3D character models have something called a ‘bone’, which, much like in real life, defines a characters arms, and where the bones join, angle limits can be set, so that the model’s elbow can’t bent 270 degrees.

In an engine like Skyrim’s, if you bend a joint beyond its limit, it will rotate the model so that the bend doesn’t break that angle constraint.

Imagine it like this. hold your right arm out, and bend your elbow 90 degrees up, with your wrist towards you. Now straighten your arm out. If you want to keep bending your elbow so that you can put your hand on your armpit, wrist in still, you have to rotate your arm so you don’t break your elbow.

When the Giant squishes you with his big mace thingummy, he squishes you into the ground, and the game engine trys to rotate your entire player model at the same time into a thousand different positions so that it doesn’t break those constraints, pushing your character into the sky and entering it into low Earth orbit.

I jumped at a giant as it hit me, there was a dragon flying around the area and I got a birds eye view of it. I don’t want this bug to go :(

          Agreed.

If they could make a feature in the Options menu, people that didn’t want it could toggle it off. I’d be ok with that.

I have both the crash to desktop with no error as well as a bug with the crown quest as the general seems to think he is at a party and will not accept the crown :(. Was hoping i might be finally able to continue my skyrim adventure!

Yes, random crash to desktop bug needs sorting. Doesn’t happen too often but is a real shitter when it does and you haven’t saved for a while.

Is it that big a deal? The game autosaves often enough every time you enter/leave a cell. And every 15 minutes (I think). And sometimes when you hit the menu button.

Will this make it so we can use the LAA on the patched .exe? Or am I best off staying with the original non patched exe and hoping I don’t come across any bugs.

On pc I’ve found thid to be the most stable and bug free Bethesda game to date.40+ hours and 1 random crash to desktop and no other bugs and this is on a pc with the bejeezus over clocked out of it at this rate Bethesda might loose their reputation as the buggiest developer.

I had the slowdown (PS3), the ever-entertaining projectile in the companion (and in other NPCs) that won’t go away, and a dragon not giving up a soul.

If they could fix a few quests next, that’d be great.

If they really have fixed the key mapping issues properly this makes me happy. No more playing “Guess which key it really is”. Hopefully they also fix the issues whereby the game stops responding to all input bar the mouse. Well, it responds to Alt-F4…
