The Cloud Is Coming To The Xbox

Microsoft’s Brian Prince has told a panel at GDC China “you will be seeing things in the Xbox platform that’s cloud-specific. I’m already doing it, it’s really exciting, but I can’t tell you about it or else I’ll get fired.” [Gamasutra]

True, but at only two sentences and without even a picture for the article. I’m inclined to shake my head on this one.

It’s not hard at all to type:
“As to what these features could be is anyones guess at this point. Backing up save games to the cloud is already confirmed for the Fall Dash Update. However, Microsoft is staying tight lipped on any other possible inclusions.

Got any useful cloud feature ideas you’d like to see make their way to Xbox? Give them a shout out in the comments!”

That took me 2 minutes to write. Lazy is what I say.

Cloud saves are something we’ll all be seeing in the next Dash update. ~500MB of space.

Haven’t tested whether they’re automatically uploaded or not yet. Though it will definitely be a one-up on Sony if they are.

It will be interesting to see how the next Xbox will use the Cloud. I highly doubt it will go full-on into Cloud computing because hardly anyone in Australia would buy it, what with how long the NBN rollout will take (and if Abbott takes office at the next election).

Or players’ data could be purely saved onto the Cloud as part of the Xbox Live fee.

Also, I’m surprised Luke Plunkett has made an article that isn’t CoD fanboyism for once. Kotick must have forgotten to pay him for his last fanboy article.

The full speech included mentions of how it wouldn’t be in place for quite some time… as the internet isn’t great outside of cities in America, which is where most Americans live.

Remind me not to click on links that don’t have “Read More” at the end of them…
