The First Art From The Last Of Us

Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us, an upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, only made its public debut over the weekend, and already we’ve got a look at its first concept art.

Most of these pieces are by Maciej Kuciara, an artist who we’ve featured before here on Kotaku and who previously spent some time at Crytek, the developers of Crysis and Crysis 2. So he’s gone from drawing busted-up American cities to…drawing busted-up American cities.

Something which seems to be the theme of the game’s development, given The Last Of Us’ designer Mark Richard Davies also last worked on a similar project, the post-apocalyptic Enslaved.

A few things to note from the art: one clearly shows the San Francisco skyline in ruins behind the pair, suggesting that’s where your journey begins (or at least where it did while the game was on the drawing board). And nearly all of them give off a vibe distinctly different from the trailer, as I’m getting much more of a The Road feel than I Am Legend.

If you’d like to see more of Kuciara’s work, you should check out his personal site.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists. If you’re in the business and have some concept, environment or character art you’d like to share, drop us a line!
