What Are The Chances Of (Another) Metal Gear Solid Remake?

Released back in 1998, the first Metal Gear Solid is one of those titles for which gamers continuously cry “remake”. Hideo Kojima, the game’s creator, seems perfectly happy with the game.

“Looking back, there’s not anything in particular I want to go back and fix. If you change anything, you change the game — and I want to avoid that,” Kojima told the Official PlayStation Magazine. “If you bring the gameplay up to modern standards, then you lose a bit of the original game. It was a game made for a certain era — not just the story, but the controls and everything about it reflect that era in which the game was made.”

“There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original and as producer I want to answer those calls,” Kojima said. “But as a creator I’m not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake — the only thing that would be the same would be the story. If it happened at some point I would stay as a producer, but would have to hand off most of the actual creating.”

Who wants a Metal Gear Solid remake with “the actual creating” done by the dude who didn’t do the original creating?

I’ve corrected this article, though the error still appears in the US one. Thanks.

I think there is a special edition of the MGS Collection that does include MGS1. Or at least a code to download it from the PS Store.

Wasn’t the original MGS given an upgrade in MGS Twin Snakes for the gamecube? Better graphics, etc.
Does that not count because the console wasn’t very successful?

Yeah, built off the MGS2 engine by some american company (silicon knights? something like that) its pretty awesome i always felt MGS2 had the most solid gameplay mechanics of the lot. I don’t see why they couldn’t have included it on this, im not sure if that other developer is still around or not but surely something could have been done.

I would much rather they remake MG1 and 2 on the new fox engine, release them as one game ret-con the living crap out of them to shoehorn them into the story a bit better and mix the gameplay of 3 and 2 together. Would be a damn good thing. I would love to see a young cocky snake, grey fox, Big Boss etc all in the one game on current gen tech.

It wasn’t built on the MGS2 engine rather just incorporated elements of gameplay from the sequel.

I’m also in the camp that the remake was a train wreck that is a disservice to the original. I know leading up to MGS4 when I was playing through some of the earlier games I stuck to the original rather than SK’s version.

Silicon Knights created the god-tier Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Reqiuem.
        Damn that game was awesome.

Yeah, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, on Nintendo Gamecube, developed by Silicon Knights. Goes for about au$100 average on Ebay! Nintendo obviously still holds the licence, sux! Still getting MGS Collection though – I have a Gamecube, just gota fork out the cash for the remake!

They changed the audio, which means the whole package was a complete failure.
Any remake must use only the original audio, plus maybe a few small extra things that don’t ruin the story, re-recording the script is a big no-no.
It’s better to be safe than sorry, as the twin snakes has proven.

The twin snakes audio is considered canon and was used in MGS4 cutscenes. They fixed things like Mei Ling’s accents.

I don’t know why people clamour for a remake of MGS. They already did one. Was it perfect? No. But with two versions of the game, the original available on PSN for a small price, there’s no need. The only games in the series that need to be remade are the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Even the story in those needs a do over to bring it in line with all the retcons. Other than that, no games in the series need to be remade (though I would give my right hand for a PS3 port of Portable Ops).

They dont need to update the gameplay mechanics just simply remake game is ps3 graphics keeping the original looks of everything just in ps3 graphics. If he doesn’t want to completely remake it at least do a basic remake and just remake the game exclusive how it was just in ps3 graphics

Exactly how it was* and people including me want it remade because a game so epic as mgs1 could and would be way better than it was originally made. As long as they don’t change the story or any of the script

Also gives them plate ability to do 100000000 times more then they could back then. And when people say remake they don’t
Mean take original and completely change it and only leave the basic story they mean recreate it exactly how it was just wih modern day graphics audio and updated voice acting
