What’s more, there are 7 million users in the game’s Call of Duty: Elite online service, 1.5 million of them as paying annual members.
In January, Xbox Live reported that the three most recent Call of Duty titles went 1-2-3 in its listing of most popular games played on the Xbox 360. The figure concerns all users playing while logged into Xbox Live, not just multiplayer. Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also made the top 20. Activision said both games, released in 2008 and 2007, respectively, split 5 million users.
Activision confirmed it’s working on the second iteration of Call of Duty: Elite, which will support this year’s release of the series.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 3:46 PM“This figure concerns all users playing while logged into Xbox Live, not just multiplayer.” It certainly concerns the hell out of me… 40 million people play CoD? Stop giving Activision incentive to recycle assets at a $1b p.a. profit, and encourage them to put some effort into their games.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:03 PMNot surprising, and not caring.
Seriously, why is this classed as news?
You might as well say: “This just in, my dog pooped on my front lawn today”
That’s how relevant Call of Duty news is now.
So, your ‘barely developed’ game has 40 million people playing it now, who cares?
It’s not really an achievement.
Just because millions play it doesn’t mean its the best game in existence.
Some of the best games ever created were only played by a few hundred thousand people.
Websites complain about games like Mario and Halo starting to show it’s age and hates them for not changing or making something new, but still they praise Call of Duty even though they haven’t changed a damn thing in the last 5 years.
Quantity does not equal quality.
