The trial of Anders Behring Breivik’s is currently underway, and already there has been talk of video games and their influence on Brehvik’s behaviour, which is troubling to say the least. Almost as troubling as this picture of his World of Warcraft character — how he managed to play with that user interface I’ll never know…
World of Warcraft has already been discussed in the court, where the above image was shown. According to The Daily Telegraph, Breivik broke into a “broad smile” when a screenshot of his World of Warcraft character was projected into the court.
The game was brought up by the Prosecution, in an attempt to characterize Brehvik as an anti-social, troubled man struggling with a series of failures in his life.
It’s difficult to know precisely how to feel when a video game makes news in this way. On the one hand it’s clear that Brehvik is completely insane, and his consumption of video games is barely relevant in this case. But in the context of the prosecution’s attempt to characterise Brehvik as an anti-social loner living in isolation, is it fair to discuss the fact that Anders Brehvik practically played World of Warcraft full time for a year? Possibly…
So far no-one has directly attempted to blame the Oslo Massacre on video games, which is a good thing. But the trial is still in progress, and I’m sure the topic will come up again at some point.

It dosen't matter wheather he killed 77 or even 5. Just 1 is to much. I would rank this man's offence as one of the worst in the world, proably on par with people who committed mass genocide as he thinks he was the " good guy " or saviour and killed out of necessity or duty. That's proably just as f**ked as pedophilia.
And btw wasn't his " mission " trying to rid Islam from Europe yet to my knowledge he goes out and kills a bunch of Norwegians?... Is it because those people were part of a left wing party or?..
^This.
The really sad part, is that he probably already has an army of fangirls writing to him in prison and pledging their "support". When hundreds of guys who aren't y'know MASS MURDERERS can't even get a girl to talk to them.
If you don't think killing 77 people for any reason other than direct self defense is an insane act, in my opinion you're a freaking lunatic.
Turret section in a shooter?
I simply think that he should rot in a cell for the rest of his days and therefore will be punished by god, his faith mind you, upon approaching the gates of heaven. He will be judged accordingly then.
Kill someone for religious rhetoric then expect to be punish by the deities and forefathers of the same god you worship. Full circle at it's best.
On a seperate note, video games do not create a wrong mental state. You are already mental in the head. Games do not make you that way. They do however bring these underpinning psychiatric issues to the front. All of my friends have been playing video games since the atari 2600 days including myself. We haven't gone out and slaughtered anyone or started fights or whatever.
We did have a old school acquaintence who used to get very punchy after playng fps games like halo and COD's. We dont see him anymore but last i heard he started a fight he couldn't finish at the pub after playing COD for ten hours straight. Copped some great black eyes and broken ribs after bitting more than he could chew. Some people aren't meant to play video games. It's clear and simple. And guess what? His wife has removed games from their house and he doesn't play anything anymore. He tried to play COD after coming out of hospital and it took a hole through the wall after another five hour stint for him to realise it's games that do it to him.
Did i sit in front of my PC after getting GTA3 and just bash ppl with a bat on the street for an hour just to see what happened? Yes of course i did. Did I then go out in the real world and do the same? No. Making a distinction between reality and the made up world of games is something I have been doing since I was child. Thanks mum and dad for helping me learn. Other parents should follow suit but again, sometimes some people aren't meant to play video games. Pure and simple.
