Crysis 3 Transforms New York City In 2013

This morning EA and Crytek have officially unveiled Crysis 3, the third instalment of the high-tech military shooter franchise and the second set in New York City's lush rainforests and teeming swamps. Wait, what?

The first Crysis took place on a tropical island. The second Crysis took place in New York City. The third mashes these two environments together, thanks to the power of the sinister Cell Corporation's Nanodome. Yes, New York City has been encased in a bubble and transformed into an urban rainforest, with seven distinct environments (known as the Seven Wonders) ready to put Prophet's skills and technology to the limit.

It's the perfect place for a bow, as it turns out, like the one we saw during last week's leak.

"Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love," said Cevat Yerli, chief executive officer of Crytek via the official press release. "Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we're able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game."

And EA cannot wait to get fans lined up to play. Despite the game's 2013 release date, Origin is already taking preorders, with customers that commit early to the Crysis 3 Hunter Edition scoring early access to the bow weapon and double experience points in multiplayer up to level five.

They've even lined up retailer-exclusive preorder bonuses already:

  • Stalker Pack — Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: for players who like to stalk their prey from the shadows the Stalker Pack provides early multiplayer access to the deadly semi-auto Jackal shotgun. This powerful, close-range shotgun comes with a unique silencer attachment, custom weapon skin and two exclusive themed in-game dog tags.
  • Overkill Pack — Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Overkill Pack features early multiplayer access to the Typhoon assault weapon and skin. Spewing 500 rounds a second, the Typhoon gives players the ability to go guns blazing to take back the Liberty Dome. Also included are two exclusive Overkill themed in-game dog tags.
  • Predator Pack — Includes the base game, all the Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Predator Pack delivers early multiplayer access to the Feline submachine gun and exclusive camo. With an extremely fast rate of fire and a 60 round magazine the Feline is highly effective and deadly, at short range.

They don't mention which retailer is offering which pack, but who really cares? So yes, EA and Crytek would really like you to play Crysis 3, eventually. Did I mention the hunter has become the hunted, and that everyone is a target in Prophet's quest for retribution? I probably should have. That sort of originality must be lauded.

Who's excited?

The game was always more fun when you were killing other people. I hope the Aliens part doesn't take over the WHOLE game.

Especially seeing as the Aliens weren't really that interesting to fight.

I'm guessing the bow can be shot in cloak mode without going uncloaked.

Would be majorly stupid if you couldn't, given a bow takes zero energy to use...

A bow takes zero energy to use? Are you serious?

No news on a console release?

      Game won't run on console.

Crysis and Crysis 2 were both released on consoles. What makes you believe Crysis 3 won't?

Lol, Crytek are one of those companies who thinks every pirated copy = lost sale yayayada backwards bullcrap, and so they built the cry engine 3 to be a console engine with Crysis 2 being a console game, therefore Crysis 3 will be a console game.

Those offers suck. Whats the point of pre ordering when all you get is early unlocks to a couple of weapons.

Pre-orders and retailer content already? EA must be really bleeding money.

Oh look, EA destroyed another franchise. This looks like Crysis 2.5.

also Crysis 1 is the only crysis game worth buying

Crysis 1 is just a over hyped technical demo.

Seriously, I have started playing this game and gave up after a while when it just turned out to be mostly just visuals.

I uninstalled and turned to be a better game - FarCry.

meh, After the farcical release of 2 which was purely aimed at consoles, They partially made up for it with the dx11 patch and higher res textures. I think the evil vein that controls EA has moved to both bioware and crytek. Very sad considering the history of both devs.

didn't prophet get killed off in crysis2?

Yes he did, right at the start. SPOILERS: But at the end of the game you find his consciousness is actually still alive inside your suit, so in Crysis 3 he becomes like Alcatraz's Navi... "Hey Listen!"... either that or Alcatraz gets wiped and Prophet takens over ala Source Code.

So what happened to Crysis aliens turning everything to ice?
Hell, what happened to them being at least slightly interesting. I was hopnig they'd realized how boring they were in Crysis 2, but this is a shame.

I only heard about Crysis 3 2 minutes ago. Aren't we a bit early for pre-order discussion?

That compound bow, oh god makes you think why hasn't anyone done it before (I'm sure they have but I can't pull it off the top of my head) Looks awesome! :D

I dunno. I mean its basically the silent kill weapon in a metric crap ton of games. I.e turok.

Yeah I know :P but there is something about a compound bow that just looks menacing, more so than a crossbow or something.

I wonder if the story and direction will have the same feel as Crysis 2? You know, it being a load of pretentious wank

the whole setting brought Predator: Concrete Jungle to mind.

A gun that shoots 500 rounds a second?

    Well... there goes the multiplayer.

I hope they move back to a feel more like the first game, which was a really unique and badass shooter. It was so much fun playing mind-games with thick soldiers, before punching through a wall and collapsing a shed onto one. Good times :'). Also, I hope they realise how dull and generic Crysis 2 was. As much as I tried to like it (a lot.), it lost that awesome feeling of actually deciding which mode to use. Just being a soldier with a strong punch and a chargeable jump is NOT THE SAME as switching to strength mode to punch a foo', then switching to speed to run behind some cover, then into cloak to flank, then into strength to jump onto a building, then PUNCHING THAT F***ER DOWN.

In conclusion, Crysis 1 > Crysis 2. Bow looks sweet, too.

pity Crysis 1 had such shit hit rego though. Due to my awesome skillZ...(LOL) I could hit someone with the regular rifle and see the bullet "impact" yet no damage would be recorded. really put me off the game. think its something to do with the cryengine cos the dunia engine (derivative of cryengine) has the same problem as shown in Farcry 2. Hopefully they have fixed that.

Seeing a lot of games now with an New York City type of City thats been overrun with vegetation and trees etc. Still looks intresting

I hope this is more like the first. I got so bored in 2 that I couldn't finish it.

never played crysis 2, but i am sold

This is great! I needed a new Vita game!

    ... What? :D

Are we all forgetting nomad, psycho and what the hell happened after crysis and warhead...? Or did they book that shit?

Nevermind they turned it into a comic... -_-

Not again last new York setting was horrid compared to Crysis 1 they really need to get focused again and make it Pc exclusive with the awesome multiplayer from 1 again

Pity it requires origin that service still hasnt improved since release.

So is this game set like 30 years after C2?
Could be interesting going to all Dutch on the aliens but knowing EA, they will fuck it up somehow.
