Just so you know Dragon's dogma has a bunch of DLC planned. One of the reviewers over the weekend has been tweeting that the game constantly advertises DLC to you. Plus, Capcom confirmed the game has a bunch of on-disc DLC. I think that is something you ought to consider.
The game looks cool but I'll be waiting for a price drop or maybe even a complete edition-Capcom is fond of those.
hmmm, a good point. I've been burnt on buying Capcom games day 1. Might give it a while, see how the whole DLC thing goes. Besides I'm sure in one week they'll release the "Super-Deluxe-Mega-Extreme Dragon Dogma" Edition
I was slightly annoyed with Capcom, until I bought Operation Raccoon City, which despite shit reviews, I enjoyed. The games has two sides - the Umbrella Security forces and SpecOps. The game ships with the Umbrella campaign, and nothing for SpecOps. There are 7 Umbrella missions, which can be completed in around 5-6 hours.
It gets better. The front of the game box advertises that the first DLC is free - the first DLC was ONE mission. ONE - the first of the SpecOps missions, of which there were 7, as was with the Umbrella missions. SpecOps missions 2-7 come in two seperate DLC's, at $16 each.
Seriously.
Capcom actually, literally, shipped half a game, and charged $32 for the second half of it. None of it was on disc, but it's fucking mortifying, to be honest.
I won't be buying Capcom again unless they change their stance on DLC, because at the moment, it's beyond terrible. It's insulting.
@ynefel, last week Capcom stated they would be 'reconsidering 'their DLC strategies. I don't know what that entails but at least it's something.

Hot chocolate FTW!
I used the microwave to warm the milk so there would be less to clean.
I use mainly water when i make hot chocolate because otherwise i get sick. The one times a year it gets cool enough to warrant drinking it here.

Teamed up with a mate. We were doing recon on a small airfield with a control tower and a couple of hangars. I was keeping watch from out front in the scrub while my friend worked his way to the back of the control tower. Two guys were hiding in the bushes there and cut him down. They then proceeded up to the top of the control tower and went prone, looking around. I said over the chat channel "That was my friend you just shot, I can see you two up on the control tower and I have you right in my crosshairs"... oh you shoulda seen them run, I have never felt that kind of satisfaction in a game before.
We are currently pretty well geared up with packs/weapons/food on the outskirts of Mogilevka which is due north of Cherno. Here's a good map http://teamfackin.com/moocow/dayz/map/
I think there's an update coming out today, I hope it doesn't reset the characters. Hope to play with you soon bud.

One thing puzzles me from your story. Why didn't you light the dudes up?
Lighting people up often makes noise, which zombies love, and tend to come running in the general direction of. It's so cool having to worry about that sort of things. I've been smashing this mod too for the past few days, it's amazing.

He respawned and we met back up at the air base where we aquired some new weaponry and met up with another friendly survivor to continue our journey.

I think there was some speculation on this when they introduced the Steam Wallet. I'm not sure if I would use it or not. Personally, I only buy from GMG when it's a Steam key. I don't like digital distribution unless the provider is Steam or Blizzard, basically.
yeah i was looking through their catalogue and none of the popular newer non-indie games are available for trade in anyway.... So fairly limited it seems.
I don't mind buying from different places but I don't want to have to use yet another distribution platform.

I played a DS game this morning, Aliens Infestation.
I recommend any DS owners check it out. It's basically Super Metroid in the Aliens universe. I'm very happy with it.

Well, you say that, but those are some pretty harsh words you threw out there. Even with the "/entitlement" thing, it's like entering a full-fledged rant and ending off with ":P" as if that's a marker to say "Oh no offence or anything!".
So perhaps you can understand why Cakesmith, a former employee of EB and still a very loyal customer could misread the tone of the post (being the internet and in text and all), and possibly take offence to it.
Understood - but you know what? I take exception to being sworn at by people on here - i never swear at any of you, no matter what i think, and i think it's only fair to expect the same towards me.
Regardless of the internet's complete lack of tone, we still be as civil to one another as possible.
And for the record, i also worked at EB, and the staff at my local EB (well one of them at least) are great people. Plus a persons chosen preferred retailer don't mean they get to let loose on others on here.

Thanks @alexpants for convincing me not to buy the Prince of Persia Epilogue DLC. I just finished watching a complete walkthrough on YouTube and it adds nothing. The epilogue ending is worse than the main game's ending, it's really short(1-2 hours long)and the back half of the DLC is filled with combat sequences one after the other-the guy playing would run for 2 min before another boss encounter. Speaking of combat, the enemies are recycled-Ubisoft claimed there were new enemies but it's just a shape-shifter who turns into two bosses you already fought in the main game.
Whew, I was so close to spending money on it.
Now buy dat Journey!

I've had Gravity Daze preordered from Amazon for quite a while. It was one of the games that most interested me about the Vita. Don't know if I'll get to it straight away though, recently when I turn my Vita on I end up spending my time in Disgaea 3.
@shane/Ynefel/Strange: I also liked Too Human, but it was a very flawed game. The plot and the setting were fascinating, Baldur was a bit bleh as a lead though and the game varies immensely in how playable it is depending on your chosen class. There were a lot of questionable design decisions I thought, and overall it felt like they pushed it out a bit undercooked, probably they had no choice. I think their lawsuit against Epic over the Unreal Engine is going to court next week, so there could be some juicy things there which may explain some of the problems Too Human had. But I think the biggest shame is that we'll probably never see more of it, which sucks because the whole Norse-myths-as-Cyberpunk kind of feel it had was awesome.
@chuloopa: I'm not much for wargaming but I'd be up for a tabletop games meat if you don't mind extending that to some euro board games. I've got quite a few. Could also bring along Space Hulk as well. Competitive hulking?
@redartifice: Best CE I've ever had was the Witcher's CE I think. Most CEs are absolutely not worth it IMO, they pack in crap that no one really wants. 'Artbooks' that are 12 page DVD-sized pamphlets. 'Soundtracks' that are just sampler discs. T-Shirts that are always the wrong size for me to wear. Badly made statues. In-game content that will be bundled into the Game of the Year Edition or sold for a lot less than the difference between CE and standard edition later on anyway. Very rare to find a good CE nowadays.
@Dire Wolf: I was getting some pretty awful Diablo 3 lag on Saturday, off and on. Generally I was around 250-300ms and that's fairly playable. But periodically I'd hit 500-600ms and you get weirdness like rubber-banding movement and abilities not firing properly at that point. Then I was also getting periods where the latency would spike above 1500ms. I also absolutely hate the fact that if you get disconnected it resets the zone you were in, so you lose all your sidequest progress and all your exploration progress because it re-generates the whole thing. When they took the game down on Saturday night for maintenance and reset about 20 minutes of my progress for the second time in my experience, I decided I'd had enough. It's willfully, deliberately and fundamentally broken. Re-playing that stuff again breaks the feedback loop. There's no 'just a bit more' when you're still catching up to the point you were already at. It really exposes how mindless the gameplay actually is. I am so disappointed with Blizzard over it - I knew it was going to require you to be on Battle.Net to play, but I didn't realise everything would be server-side like an MMO and subject to lag and stuff. Inability to pause the goddamn game also sucks, I get interrupted while playing games at home a lot. I don't think that the benefits to having the game always online in any way balance the drawbacks. Shame there's no way to get my money back.
@NoobHeadshot: Dragon's Dogma is kind of on my radar, but it seems like it's a bit open worldy, like a Japanese take on the Elder Scrolls or something. I find TES-style open world RPGs to be insanely, mind-numbingly boring. So while the game sounds pretty cool, I doubt I'll buy it until it hits the bargain bins because I don't think I'll get my money's worth from it otherwise.

People like being disappointed in stuff, everyone says they hope something will be good like a game, book, movie or experience but i think secretly alot of us actually really want to be disappointed. Because being disappointed in something makes you "cooler" than liking things. Because the brains of a modern person seem to be hardwired to think that liking something or being accepting of somethings flaws is a bad trait to have. Being accepting of flaws in media make you seem like you are making other people entitled for wanting better quality. WHy as a society to we want to be disappointed. Its the same as most other things. We want to be disapponted because we want to fit in.

There's a lot of wisdom in this post. Sometimes though people decide to be disappointed because the media in question is disappointing, and actually get un-fitted-in in the process.. (EG. I got a lot of negative reaction from folks when I said that I didn't like the Avengers, and here's why. **)

The internet is a giant echo chamber, and the people who speak out the loudest are the ones complaining. Don't assume that hearing lots of complaints means that everyone is dissatisfied.
Thats not what i really meant though, i was talking about life in general, It isn't just confined to the internet because people like telling people that they hate stuff. It has even been seen as cool to hate alot of things. I also said alot of people. Not all people specifically because you guys dont hate on everything all the time.

I think it's probably accurate to say that it's "cool" for some reason to hate popular things. One Direction, Justin Bieber and Call of Duty are pretty good examples of this.
Best example of this: Nickelback. Sure, they're pretentious and not really all that good, but I don't see the reason that so many people vitriolically hate Nickelback. Don't like it, don't listen. Simple as that.
Is it strange that I have no idea who One Direction are. I seem to have dodged that particular band without even hearing their music.
Ok, continuing from the last page, I agree this is best on PC. I had the 360 pad plugged in so I thought "well, let's see how this fares with the pad". ARGH! It wasn't pleasant, unlike Dead Space...
In fact, it surprised me a bit to see the face work wasn't actually all that good. Of course, I could care less about such things, I quite enjoyed the stealth element. Finally something different compared to "take cover, shoot brainless goons, take cover, etc." style of so many recent shooters. I'm from the old school where bots would pretty much absolutely destroy you, rocket jump or throw a Redeemer at you.
I'm also surprised Deus Ex HR runs so well on my crap-comp as I heard it's not too well optimised but, thank god it wasn't like L.A. Noire, which truly was unplayable and ran at like 10fps for me... on top of being a terrible ordeal JUST to get to the main menu screen thanks to the most horrid patching system I've ever suffered.
Back to Deus Ex, nice voice acting at times too. Presentation of the Blade Runneresque ambience is sleek as hell too.
I keep wanting to dig my Augmented edition out of my pile o shame. Might just do this and play a stealth game.
The soundtrack always put shivers down my spine. The ambience was awesome, it really did well with the atmosphere around you.
The DXHR soundtrack was amazing. My game of the year last year actually, loved every minute except the boss battles. Wish they'd put in more of the open-world areas like Detroit though. I read somewhere that they originally intended there to be two extra hubs, one in whichever city in Canada it was you visited (Vancouver I think?) and one at the top of the Panchea. Both got cut so they could focus on the rest of the game. :(
Really really hoping they make more games in the setting.
Deus Ex HR was very, very optimized for PC. They had a whole separate team do the port, it supports heaps of DX11 extras and stuff so it scales really well on DX11 hardware, eg if you've got the capability it'll use FXAA instead of MSAA.
Hey all, Im back in AUS after a 10 day whirlwind EU tour. Still getting over jet lag and sleep depravation but otherwise im all good. i crammed so much into such a small amount of time it feels like ive ben away for months.
Hanging out with the Redlynx guys was awesome. they were such a great bunch of guys and it did seem like a cool place to work. I'll try and write up something in more detail but the trip was amazing. Not surprising really but they made me sign a Non Disclosure Agreement as soon as I got there so if I did see anything that was super cool I can't say anything.. Honestly there wasn't any major surprises, but I have to watch what i say!
I can say that the Evo launch party was awesome, they even managed to get a real life Trials Rider to ride into the warehouse thingy where the party was in and do some trials riding stuff while we stood around drinking... there were xbox consoles set up and multiplayer was going on all night. Heaps of free booze so overall it was likely to be the best party i've ever gone to. There were heaps of speaches in Finnish so i just kept drinking. :) I also got to hang out with a few microsoft dudes and had some interesting conversations about piracy and the like (that i used tobe into) so it was cool to have a candid chat about firmware mods and modchipping to see what they thought about it internally.
really struggling to just concentrate at work today and im not sure if im still tired or have slept too much? Ive been up since 4am?
Then after hanging with the Trials Team, I managed to get to stockholm for a day and see the Vasa Museum which was awesome, then went to london and saw a ton of stuff. Changing of the guard, westminster abbey, tower of london, greenwich, British Museum to name a few...
Glad to be home with the family but man I could just travel for the rest of my life. I dont think I'll be back to normal until next week some time but it was worth every sleepless night and every Euro/Krona/Pound that I spent.
I'll try and get back into the Evo comp now that Im back. I have some redlynx stubbie holders so I can award these as prizes if you want. I have about 5 or so to give away? it was alright actually there are a few staff at RL who are ex community members turned staff who were from US and UK so I hung out with them because they could relate to what I was going through. I mean that language was crazy. I picked up about 4-5 words but was so happy to realise that they pretty much all speak good english. Just hard looking at the writing around the place so it was a new experieice.
Haha, yeah that language is crazy but the experience... oh man! There'd be nothing quite like it. At least you had some English homies though!

I write to you on this, the twenty-first day of the fifth month, as a distressed Princess Leia aboard the Tantine IV. I have placed information vital to the benefit of my personal life into the memory systems of this R2 unit (the internet). I should get straight into it. Some of you guys follow me on Twitter and some of you have probably seen me floating around Kotaku articles for a while. If you don’t know who I am, I have made a video to say “hello, this is me, life should be fun for everyone” [as I am a rabid fan of the saddle club… anyone… hello??] below.

However this video has dual purpose. First of all, it allows you to see how bad my neckbeard is and how horrible my impersonation of the Serrels stare is. Second of all, it’s about asking for your help. I recently entered the Xbox E3 Insider competition that, if you own an Xbox, you may have noticed on your dashboard. Entry required submitting a 500 word review on an Xbox title (I picked Trials, of course) and a 2 minute video describing why you should be sent to E3. The video should be available on the Xbox dashboard later today, however I have also included it here:

It’s not the most well put together or even the most well-lit but it is simple. I actually have given reasons why I should win and perhaps a little taste of what I am like on camera.
So I have come here asking for your help. I’d love for you to go and watch that video on your dash and vote for me to go to E3. Even more than that though, I would just like you to go look at the Top 5 and have a say as to who you think should go. I realise this tactic may work against me and some of the other entrants may benefit from me drawing attention to the competition in a community such as this, but no matter. I would prefer a ton of votes get registered and lose than a few getting registered and I win. It’s not fun if 100 votes are all that gets to decide the winner, but 10,000 or so votes means it’s actually based on the community, rather than someone spamming new xbox accounts to win. A good cross section of the community, rather than a minority.
Aside from winning being absolutely incredible, I think it only fair that if you do vote for me I give you something in return. Whatever could that be? I do not know. Would you like me to track down a certain game at E3? Ask some tough questions of a publisher or developer? Do you want me to chug a beer and throw up on Shigeru Miyamoto to see how long I last? Do you want me to throttle Ken Levine for delaying Bioshock Infinite? Would you like me to cosplay as Tifa? I mean, all these things are possible. All these things are achievable and worthy causes (except maybe the miyamoto thing… achievable, yes. Worthy… not so much)
So if you do go to your dash and vote for me, let me know and perhaps even suggest some cool things you’d like to see reported from E3. Make it unconventional, make it different. If I win, consider this a partnership and I will write a few features for you TAY guys and girls. I know TAY is one of the best places for reading such things because I often find myself doing that during an average work day and perhaps it’s about time I gave as good as I get.

The first part of the above image is a bit scary. It signals a future of more and more DLC for each game. The image was from the latest Ubisoft financial report, where they reported a 110% increase in sales of downloadable content and digital products.
EA's results were oddly similar. Their profits were bolstered by sales of FIFA DLC, especially the ultimate team packs, Mass effect 3 online content and SSX.
Both companies confirmed that they will be looking into future money making initiatives from a single game purchase. This means more DLC per game.
So it's basically a free to play model for retail products. :-(
Sigh. Gone are the days when they'd ship complete games...

Not really surprised. Problem is it leads to more sequels, less newness.
The sad reality is that you're getting less for your money these days. Pretty much every game will cut out content to either sell later as DLC or provide in those terrible pre-order bonuses.
So true. I was looking at my PS2 games over the weekend and I just smiled knowing that all the games there had all their content on the disc.
Gaming is better in some ways but the nickel-and-diming approach is one of the negative changes in the industry.

Has anyone here played Anno 2070? I noticed its half price today on Steam. From what I read on the Steam page it sounds interesting, but I thought I ask around a bit first. I know it's got always on DRM, but if the gameplay is good enough, I can over look that.
